Mason's replacementThe best part is about 3:46 in. According to the cnnsi article (see below) that was on his 8th try. The article claims the video was reviewed by a separate video editor who verified it was authentic (no trick editing). Whether or not that's true, this guy did parlay this video into a tryout with the Jets this fall, and another tryout invitation in March. Article link |

Personally, with the offense we've had I've usually been in favor of going for a 4th and short rather than kicking a low-percentage field goal even before Mason's difficulties. Mason's been solid in his limited attempts the last few games, and unlike earlier in the year the field goals that have made it don't look ugly anymore. We'll see how he does outdoors against an NFL team, but IMO we can trust him from 45 in at this point. If it's more than 45 and it's not a situation where a 3 pointer's going to put us a score ahead in the fourth or something to that affect, I say go for it if it's 4th and less than 6. We'll make that play 60%+ of the time. |
