Our second article focuses on A.J. Hawk and his current contract restructuring. Make no bones about it, this is a pay cut for Hawk; however, it’s not like he’s getting peanuts for the deal.

One of the hardest things for the average fan to comprehend is how NFL contracts work and how they apply to a team’s salary cap. There are many complicated elements, rules, and exceptions that can be hard to sort out. In this series, my goal is to help you better understand how this whole system works, plus what it means to the Green Bay Packers’ current salary cap and contract concerns.

That article does a terrible job of explaining his restructure. It tried to get to fancy by talking about Dead Money which has absolutely nothing to do with the restructure. What the dead money means, is what would the cap hit be if Hawk was cut today. Before the restructure, the cap hit to cut him would have been 4.8mil, add the guaranteed and it goes to 7. The article makes it sound like they just hid money which isn't the case.

Hawk took a 28% pay cut plain and simple. And gets a guarantee for part because of his willingness to work with them.

Hawk took a pay cut on his base salary in 2013,2014,2015, he still receives ALL of the GUARANTEED money from the original contract.

Basically he took a 1.3 mil. pay cut for the year 2013.

The cuts he took in 2014 and 2015 are probably MOOT(right Zero?), since The Packers will either cut him, trade him, or extend his contract after the 2013 season.

Cutting him is probably what will happen, if they do this after the 2013 season he will still count 3.2mil(the rest of his original signing bonus) against the 2014 cap.(dead money)

This is the business side of things, these contracts are all about THE GUARANTEED MONEY, the rest is just window dressing after the 1st couple of years.

Players don't have to restructure, looks like A.J. wanted at least 1 more year in Green Bay.

Edit: had $1300 not 1.3mil

Our third article focuses on Jermichael Finley’s current contract and what its purpose served last offseason when each party agreed to it. Namely, why was it only a two-year deal, and why were the monetary details set as they were?

Zero2Cool (14h) : Hi 😊😉
TheKanataThrilla (20h) : I guess I should have did a refresh when I walked away from the computer.
TheKanataThrilla (20h) : Peters is 25 with one year left on his contract at just over $3M
Zero2Cool (21h) : Mel Kiper sticks with Marcus Davenport to GB in 2nd mock
Zero2Cool (23h) : As for Marcus Peters, how old is he an what's his contract years left?
Zero2Cool (23h) : Packers got tired of Sitton's antics.
Zero2Cool (23h) : Sitton was released not because of play or salary, but personality. He will not be re-signed.
TheKanataThrilla (23h) : If we are planning on possibly cutting Cobb I can see the 2nd round pick. A second round pick for Peters is a pretty good deal.
Smokey (21-Feb) : I'd offer Cobb + a 3rd round pick + a 6th round pick in 2019 for the CB Peters from KC.
TheKanataThrilla (21-Feb) : I guess that is a highter round pick
TheKanataThrilla (21-Feb) : Suggestion was a 2nd round pick. I would want a lower round pick. I think that is too much. A 3rd or 4th seems about right.
Smokey (21-Feb) : Cobb and WHAT PICK ?
TheKanataThrilla (21-Feb) : A suggestion I saw was a trade of Cobb and a Pick for Peters. I think that would be a great move.
Smokey (21-Feb) : Sitton was drafted be GB in 2008, not a young man at this point, but still is a "bear" of a man.
Cheesey (21-Feb) : Sitton? Maybe if the price is right.
Cheesey (21-Feb) : I doubt the Packers would try to resign Sutton. But who knows? If the price is right?
Zero2Cool (20-Feb) : Bears declining option on Josh Sitton. He'll be Free Agent.
Zero2Cool (20-Feb) : Chiefs CB Marcus Peters trade rumors -- come to Packers!
