Last season I was disappointed in the overall play of Hawk.. for a #5 pick I think he underplayed that high of a draft slot.. I mean that he was solid and steady but really didn't have the impact that one would assume he would have.
But so far this season.. even a little nicked up.. the kid is playing at a different level.. intensity is up and he seems to be a step ahead an instinctive instead of reactive.. of all the players on the defense so far this season, I am impressed with his play.
Your thoughts?

I agree 100 percent. He seems to be in on every play. And that sack he had last week where he jumped over that dude was awesome

Different schemes. I think our DC finally took his head out of his you know where and realized that we'll need to generate pressure against top tier teams to win games.
So we're finally utilizing Hawk's talents. Opposing O's don't know whether he's going to stay back in coverage or blitz the QB. I like how Hawk is utilized much better this year than last.

Where he jumped over the FB or OL whomever and sacked Kitna, priceless. He looked like a giant, HAWK! It was great.

I think he played very solid last season for a rookie trying to mend his game to the Pro Level.
This year you are right though, he has stepped it up to a monster level so far. heres to more diving sacks.

I agree. He has been a standout player this year, and in my opinion, is playing FAR better then Barnett so far (my favorite Packer).
Barnett has been getting sucked in the play action fakes and not getting off blockers quick enough these past two games. I'm not worried about him though, he'll shape up.
But yeah, A.J. Hawk. Star of our defense so far this season (sorry Woodson!)
=)

I think he is the fastest guy the packers have had on defense in quite some time. I wonder if GB will have him matched up against witten on sunday.

I'm sure we'll see Hawk make Witton not want to go up the middle.

Well, I don't think Jason Witten is afraid of anybody, but Hawk sure has been fun to watch. At least Ohio State is good for something.
I agree with others that the coaches are using him better this year, and that probably has a lot to do with his success. It also helps that our defensive starters are all the same guys as last year. A.J. knows what his teammates are going to do, so he can rely on his instincts more. He's making the kinds of big plays he used to make all the time in college.

It's only his third season. I think Hawk was rock solid the last two years. He did lead the team in tackles in 06 and last year Barnett was all over the place so I believe that effected Hawk a little.
I also think the coaching staff had trouble figuring out what to do with Hawk. Blitz him or use him in coverage?
This year he's being used in the blitz more and more and it's working. 2 sacks last week and he's also been freed up much more. If Barnett picks up his plays and Hawk sustains his, GB has the best linebacker duo in the league in my opinion.
Ahead of Chicago.

It took Barnett to his what, 3rd or 4th season to really start to shine and play like an all-pro, i mean he was decent before but he's really come on strong as of recently. I can see the same happening with hawk. He's looked awesome so far, and the LB's in general look great this year.
