We jumped ahead of the 49ers to grab this kid in last year's draft, and I read somewhere that they weren't very happy about it. I just want improved play at the ILB position - and I don't really care which horse we go with.

The topic is about Desmond Bishop, but he wasn't drafted last year. Who are you talking about? Nick Perry? He's an OLB and he's not even the topic of discussion so you got me with bafflitis!

I think he's talking about
Terrell Manning Quote:I missed it on the war room cam, but according to folks in the comments, shortly before the pick, Trent Baalke hit the table at which he was sitting. It is possible the team was targeting OLB Terrell Manning, who went two picks before. We will never know for sure, but that is an interesting reaction and provides more insight than we ever get in press conferences.

If Des Bishop can come back and perform well post ruptured hamstring, well, how great would that be? As big a fan as I am of him, I can see that is possibly too great a stretch. I can't fault the team for wanting to protect themselves by either cutting him or trying to rework his deal - as much as I disagree with the entire notion. Teams have players over a barrel in these kinds of situations. Given that this is the nature of the league, I can see why the Packers may be looking to protect themselves. A re-injury in camp will cost them $3.5M. I get it. I don't like it, but I get it.

After hating this probable dumping of Bishop at first, I'm coming around to the point of view that it's not too bad a thing - considering the cost, the possibility of slow recovery or re-injury, the apparent high opinion of Manning when he was drafted, etc.
Also, I was glad to see somebody above put Mulumba - who I have great hopes for - with the ILBs rather than the crowded OLB slot. Regarding that post, I think they may only keep 8 LBs instead of 9 because of keeping an additional O Lineman and/or RB.

A little more information on Desmond Bishops injury.
Rob Demovsky said: Good question. Before talking to Bishop a couple of weeks ago, no one even knew that it was the tendon rather than the hamstring muscle itself. The way it was explained to me was that tearing the tendon that connects the hammy to the bone was about the same in terms of severity/recovery as tearing an ACL, which we know to be about 9-12 months. Beyond that, it's nearly impossible to say unless you're privy to the medical information specific to Bishop.
