They'll hold him out until after the bye. No way they risk a follow up concussion.

Can I just angrily say this:

For the record, I hope Merriweather is not just fined but out for the season. The piece of shit.

If that's Shanahan's concept of a perfect tackle then he should probably be suspended too for the sake of the Washington Redskins and every team they play against.

His broncos were dirty teams and the redskins are no different now based on yesterday's showing. Wouldn't mind seeing the pricks go 0-16 this year.

Ok, even if Lacey lowered his head, isn't there a rule about leading with the crown of your helmet? It was called spearing when I was playing in high school.

I can't see Lacy moving his head at all. You may lower your head when you are going forward but he is falling to the side. The natural tendency is to keep your head up so you can see what is going on not let your head flop to the side like a newborn with no muscle strength.

Lacy was just falling forward because of momentum. He never lowered his head. The NFL really needs to work harder to enforce these targeting rules in order to protect their players - you don't want to mess with head injuries.

I almost think I am the only one who only thinks these hits should not be penalties on the field. Have the replay official look at the hits after the play and if the hit is deemed severe enough have them ejected. Far worse than a penalty. We have seen that the only thing players care about is not being able to play and hitting them hard in the pocket. Spearing should be a suspension

I think college instituted something like that this year if I'm not mistaken.

Yeah, but the level of enforcement thus far is laughable. It's just as bad as the NFL.

Dirty play indeed, I have no idea how even Shanny can justify it. I am one that doesn't like to see injuries on the field, but when it backfired on him I didn't feel one bit bad for the dirtbag - he got what he deserved.

It is obvious that not every helmet to helmet is intentional, but in this case it would be hard to argue it otherwise. Two in the same game should be grounds for suspension Shame on you

If the goal is to reduce head injuries, they aren't doing a good job protecting the players. I am highly disappointed in the officials for letting both of these slip by.

what the heck is a "tough shot"? A good hit or a cheap hit?

Quote:
Quarterback Aaron Rodgers was a guest Monday on SiriusXM's Mad Dog Radio show with Adam Schein.

Rodgers was asked about the hit on running back Eddie Lacy by Washington safety Brandon Meriweather. On his second carry of the game, Lacy suffered a concussion and left the game.

"I didn't see it," Rodgers said. "It was one of those hits I saw the highlight after. He was the in the air and Meriweather put a good lick on him. No penalty was called. I thought it was a tough shot."

Rodgers was asked if he thought a penalty should have been called on the play.

"I think a lot of those hits, when a guy is in the air, where a guy ducks, it puts the defender in a tough position because their angle of impact can get changed in an instant based on a guy crouching or in the air and falling or what not. I'll leave that up to the league to determine what they want to do with that. I didn't see it from my vantage point on the field."

there are three possible translations to Rodgers' comments.

1) it was a dirty shot and Merriwether should not only have been penalized he should be fined but I am not going to say that after all the fiasco that went on with the Matthews Kaepernick thing.

2) It was a clean shot and Eddie was as much to blame but I am not going to say that because I am not going to take a chance on pissing off any of my fans.

3) Its football for Christ's sake and football is a rough sport. Guys take hits all the time. Its time we quit treating them like they are china dolls and let them play... as long as we are not talking about quarterbacks.

Ok, there is a possible fourth.

4) why the hell don't you reporters ask me some decent questions instead of trying to get me into trouble all the time. Next question please.
I fully respect your right to have your opinion but that doesn't mean I agree with it or respect you for having it.

I agree completely with your assessment. I am just wondering which one is what he was thinking at the time. #4 most likely with #3 as what he will say he meant.
