hope shields is alright - IMO he was perhaps our best corner this year ... game might of been different with shields in ... that hyde drop would of been a game changer if he would of INTed that instead ... I digress ... we got lots of money but lots of people hitting FA - shields for one.

23% of the cap tied up in 2 players.

We better pray that we find a bunch of players that can play for minimum if we want to have a chance.

Why are teams like the 49ers, Seahawks passing us by. Because they have good QBs who are not getting paid. As long as we tie up so much of the cap in a few players we will never get to where we were before Rodgers and Clay got paid.

Plenty of cash to sign Brian Orakpo. :)

LOLB - Clay Matthews III
ROLB - Brian Orakpo

Suddenly the Packers have a Pro Bowl quartet in the secondary.

That would be sweet, but Orakpo is going to get a contract that will exceed Matthews. Which would put us at 3 players eating over 30% of the cap.

They also need to take care of Randall Cobb and Jordy Nelson, who are both free agents after 2014. Still, there's no reason they should just boycott free agency. Brian Orakpo is wishful thinking, but there are other fish in the pond.

Packers have something like $84 million on the books for 2015, which if the salary cap is the same as the projected 2014 cap, that will leave the Packers with $40 million to play with to lock up Cobb and Nelson.

Russel Wilson is 19th on their cap hits at under 1 million. Sherman is 22nd at under 700k. Kaepernick and Reed are both under 1.7mil for the 49ers. They deserve the credit for their drafts and what they've built, but obviously the time to pay like the Packers have had to is soon coming.

The same treatment Clay Matthews got last year is the same treatment I'd give Cobb and Nelson. You don't want them to come close to free agency. I rather see the team get ahead than wait until the last second to re-sign two of their best players.

Denver has about the same amount of cap space tied up in Manning and Bailey.

I don't think that it's that bad, as long as the production warrants those contracts. It does when looking at Rodgers. Clay, as well, when he's healthy, which is always a big if with him.

Most teams do have a drop-off after that, though, going towars 5 million cap space or something. We have Tramon with a 9,5 million cap hit. Seems rather out of proportion right now.

That said, we still have the cap room to do some things. Might take care of some of our receivers and frontload their contracts, though. Seems like something Ted would do rather than make a splash in FA.
