Defense — it's the phase of the game that every Green Bay Packers fan has seen as the team's biggest need this off-season and it seems like Packers GM Ted Thompson is thinking along the same lines. Yesterday, the Packers jumped right into fray by re-signing cornerback Sam Shields to a four-year

Jones sounds like a rich mans CJ Wilson

I'm not real excited about either of them. I suppose Houston sounds slightly better than Jones. The good news is that they apparently don't care about Raji. The bad news is that there was not one word about the Packers going after Ward, Byrd, or any other Safety, or any LB either.

Free Agency doesn't start until; Tuesday.

The teams have been allowed to talk to players(legally) since yesterday.

None of these so called "insiders" have any more information then what ted and Mike want them to know.

I don't expect Ted to sign anyone the 1st few days of Free Agency other than his own players.

Of course if I would have listened to all the reports Sam Shields would just be a vague memory by Tuesday.

Time to judge is in about 2 weeks.

It’s not a strong free-agent class at linebacker. Brian Orakpo and Jason Worilds are off the market. I'm guessing Pittsburgh cuts Lamarr Woodley and Dallas cuts DeMarcus Ware, so those are potential options. You could also look at Anthony Spencer on a one-year deal. None of those guys fit Ted Thompson’s criteria, but things need to fall in place before a potential linebacker emerges.

Houston is one of the best free-agent defensive linemen available. He’s a tremendous run defender. He has improved considerably since his days at Texas. You have to defend the run to beat Seattle and San Francisco. Getting a player like Houston is a good first step. His pass rush isn’t bad, either. I still believe Green Bay wants Datone Jones and Mike Daniels to rush in their sub packages, but Jones could move to outside linebacker, and Houston could lineup with Daniels.

Arthur Jones is also pretty good. He’s a quality run defender, who can get an occasional push as a rusher. He‘s the cheaper alterative. In my assessment, Green Bay needs one defensive lineman, one (maybe two) linebackers, and a safety this off-season. I don’t want to set myself up for disappointment, but Houston’s a big first step toward improving the defense.

Houston would be great, but i never put much hope into it because someone will definitely overpay to get him.

I listened to sports talk radio all night and the Packers and any UFA are ever mentioned including their own.
Hell, they never even mention Rodgers when they are talking about
top QBs.
It's kind of discouraging.

Just curious, what do you listen to. If I want good sports radio I have to listen to the Score out of Chicago. It's Bears talk but at least its football. That's why I usually have a book on tape.

Both Fox Sports Radio and ESPN and consistently when they are talking top QB's and their various attributes Aaron Rodgers is left out of the conversation.
Living up here in the U.P. my radio choices are pretty limited.

Is there anything better in life than listening to the Score on Monday morning when the Bears have lost? Especially if it's to the Packers. Best Radio Ever!

So true, I'd rather listen to that than the equivalent Packers station. I mean heck, I am already excited about the Packers win, what can callers say to get me more pumped up. The Bears fans on the other hand are good for a laugh or a dozen even on a day when your dog get run over and your wife crashes the car.

uffda udfa (15h) : TT went out and got us Jordy's replacement...James Butler...not even a camp invite.
uffda udfa (27-Aug) : I knew what you were saying and I loved it! From a production standpoint it was worse than college radio. It had Aaron which made it worth
Zero2Cool (27-Aug) : I wouldn't know good radio if it sat on my face, but I know what I find informational and worthwhile. Tuesday with Aaron, was both.
Zero2Cool (27-Aug) : I am saying my zero experience in radio > your whatever years. :D Bahahahahah
uffda udfa (27-Aug) : Ha! Yeah, I only was involved in making good radio for 8 years. Don't know a thing.
Zero2Cool (27-Aug) : Yeah, I'm not surprised I know good radio better than you. Not a big deal, you have your strengths, radio isn't one.
uffda udfa (27-Aug) : We have very different tastes. I worked in radio for many years. Thought the show was so much worse than it needed to be.
Zero2Cool (27-Aug) : NFL Pick'em v2.0 is here!
Zero2Cool (26-Aug) : Wilde was great choice and if not for Jason's rapport with Aaron, never would have happened.
uffda udfa (26-Aug) : I never caught it live...listened to podcast a few times. Wilde was the wrong guy for that show.
Zero2Cool (26-Aug) : That was poorly worded, my mistake. I was regular, it was great peak into his life. Planned meetings around it lol
uffda udfa (26-Aug) : As for Tuesday's with Aaron I did listen, but I wasn't a regular.
Smokey (26-Aug) : Anyone seen Polargrizzz lately, he's AWOL !
Zero2Cool (26-Aug) : If you listened to them, Aaron urged them to go past the 10 minutes. Jason would be an idiot to cut it off.
uffda udfa (26-Aug) : The contract stated 10 minutes but the show always went longer. Sounds like 540 took advantage and perhaps he got sick of it.
uffda udfa (26-Aug) : As for Aaron's radio show, sounds like he just didn't want to do it and they took too much of his time. Was only supposed to be 10 minutes.
Smokey (26-Aug) : Don't worry, be WR happy !
Zero2Cool (26-Aug) : WR!!
uffda udfa (25-Aug) : LeRoy Butler and Finley want TT to add a WR. Silverstein wrote a piece on it, including Rison mention. Let's get this!
uffda udfa (25-Aug) : The WHY is the big story, but that hasn't come out yet.
Zero2Cool (25-Aug) : noooooooooooooooooooo!
Zero2Cool (25-Aug) : Aaron is done? Why????
uffda udfa (25-Aug) : If you liked "Tuesday's with Aaron" he's not doing it this year. He's done.
Zero2Cool (23-Aug) : Tolzien being evaluated for concussion. What?
hardrocker950 (23-Aug) : wow... what a joke
