This is indeed good news. Quarless was my second priority among our own after Shields.

Thanks God!!!! This is one of the key signings aside from Shields. I could not be happier about Andrew Quarless coming back. A great player for us, and this will help the continuity of our running game as well as receiving. Dyno!

In fairness, he's still not back to where he was when he tore the living hell out of his knee.

He's been a tease his whole career. If he can be consistently as good as he was for most of this past season, he'll be a solid player. If he can consistently be even better than that, so much the better.

Filled in nice as a Rookie to help win a SB. Is very good blocking which will help Lacy. Has been advancing in his receiving skills. He is knowledgeable in the offense. He is cheap.

And he is still only 25.

I don't understand what is not to like with Quarless. He does a steady, yeoman's job at TE, blocking and catching pretty well. He's not elite, but he is good, IMO.

He was showing a lot of upside late into the 2013 season. With the 99.9% chance Finley is going to another team (Seahawks) and Bostick/Stonebrunner being the only other options, why not get Quarless back so that the Packers don't have to blow away a 1st round pick on a tight end (when defense is in much higher demand?)

He's most likely going to be on the cheaper side of a contract, he's young and he is a proven blocker who has improved his route-running and catching. As of now, is the best possible option to the Packers.

Thing is if we don't sign him we need a TE. We either draft one or we sign a mid to lower tier one in FA and personally I didn't see any TEs in FA that I would rather have than Quarless.

Not only does this give a decent, no not great, TE it allows us to focus on other areas in the draft. He's young and probably not too expensive. Not that this is always good but he also showed a lot of promise so I think it was a good signing.

I think he will do an adequate job at the very least and he may surprise everyone. If not we can look to upgrade next year. That is not to say adequate is what we should strive for but when you have multiple needs sometimes adequate is all you can really hope for in 1 or 2 positions.

If we make it to the SB next year it won't be because Andrew Quarless is our TE. On the other hand we don't make it to the SB it will not be because Andrew Quarless is our TE.
I respect your right to have your opinion but that doesn't mean I agree with it or respect you for having it.

That's getting a starting TE - I would say a quality starting TE - for the price of a backup. The thing I like about him is he is more of a "normal" TE - a target who can usually be relied on to catch it and then run and maybe break some tackles. Finley only got like that in his contract season, and I bet he reverts wherever he plays next season.

Not bothered by this signing in any way.

And, IMO, it means another one of those late draft choices will be available to help with other needs.

I like that deal for us. I would still like to see us bring in Owen Daniels if he's not asking for too much. I think that would round out a good solid tight end group.

I only know Quarless for 2 plays.

-the (should not have been / thank you refs) touchdown against the Vikings.

-tripping and botching the fake FG.

beyond that, I don't think I've ever seen him do anything some 6th rounder or UDFA couldn't for cheaper.

great blocker? how often is it our RB get stuffed on outside runs. better than Finley =/= great

I'm happy they resigned him. Seems to have some potential as a pass catcher which this team needs in the red zone.

Quarless was a hot commodity before the start of the free agency period, garnering interest from several teams, including the New York Giants and former Packers QB coach and now offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo.

However, it was the Packers who came through with the best deal, keeping Quarless anchored in Green Bay and catching passes from quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

He was very good at it before he shredded 3 of the 4 ligaments in his knee. I mean, his leg was nearly torn clear off with that injury. He hasn't gotten to where he was, but it was a gruesome injury, and he's progressed. He's done it before, so there's reason to believe he can get back there. He's still quite young.

High ceiling.
