I just heard it reported on ESPN News. They didn't give contract details. Can anyone find a link?

The Green Bay Packers have announced that quarterback Aaron Rodgers has signed a long-term contract extension.

The extension locks Rodgers up through the 2014 season, General Manager Ted Thompson said in the teams statement.

As we talked about in the past, we try to be proactive in our discussions with our current players and we felt like this was an appropriate time to try to come to an agreement with Aaron, Thompson said. We feel like this is good for the organization and the players, and we will continue this approach as we move forward.

The 24-year-old Rodgers was the Packers first-round draft pick in 2005. After spending three seasons as Brett Favres backup, he has started all seven games this season and has a 98.8 passer rating.

I jus saw it on ESPNews, I'm somewhat surprised but I dont think he'll be as big of a risk with the extension as Grant. I'm looking foward to the Rodgers era!

He should have honored his current contract and played it out.

(This will be the undoing of TT....guaranteed!)

Haha, I will take that to the storage, we'll see in three years (or however long it takes for you to realize A-Rod is a great QB).
This is a placeholder

Hmmm didn't the Packers keep extending another QB through the 90's and into this century well in advance to his contract expiring.. pretty damn sure they did.

That is smart money.. if the duck quacks like a duck, walks like a duck and can throw the damn football like an NFL QB.. you lock his arse up.

Look for the same positive FA effect this team has with a solid NFL QB in the fold.. glad they got this deal done.
I think when there's enough will and aggression, there's no shortage of talent either.

Greg should get signed through 2014 too, just so they know they are going to be a threat together for at least 6 more years. Smile

Now let's wait for the numbers to debate the merits.

5 years good.

The signing bonus is likely rolled into increased pay for this year so there is no future cap hit on the signing bonus like the Wells contract.

Everybody happy now. The Packers much happier in 2-3 years.

I don't think we have to worry about violating the salary cap minimum anymore. icon_smilee:

Roddyboy-- My kneejerk reaction to your post would be the suggestion that you go find some other team to try and truly root for, but upon reflection I realized there are no current NFL franchises in outer space.
