Happy Thanksgiving Alan. I hope you had a good deer camp, however I am beginning to wonder if the deer may have won this year! :eeeek:

And Ironman.......they pretty much did win this year. I sat 10 hours opening day and 10 hours sunday without seeing a single deer! (Or a married one for that matter). Monday i was sitting on a trail with my brother in law, and i heard him move and turned to see him miss TWO deer. Both were easy shots too. (He also missed one on Sunday). But i couldn't get a shot off, as he was between me and the deer. So all i could do was watch. A few hours later, i did see 2 more deer, but they were being pushed by drivers (not Donald) and they saw my brother in law's van and ran full speed away before i could even raise my rifle. I did end up getting a deer as my sister in laws boyfriend gave me one, as he got two. One really neat thing happened Sunday though,........another group of drivers were going through, and something popped out on the trail 70 yards down from me. I have only see one of these one other time in all the years i have been hunting and camping. A HUGE WOLVERINE!!! I thought it was a small bear at first, but quickly realized what it was. Thankfully, it didn't come any closer to me. Those are some MEAN creatures! It's good to be home though, and back here! (I got a nice sore throat going.....yuck!!!) Thank you for the well wishes!!! :thumbleft: |

The hunter doesn't always win. Thats the first time i didn't get a deer in 4 years, so thats not too bad an average. |

I know of three deer that resent that remark. |

Shucks, my parents got a deer last Monday. Amazing how versatile a mini-van can be. |

Well... I personally didn't get a deer myself this year, but I still have one from the gang to eat this year.. But on Turkey day, one of the guys in the shack walked up on this monster laying dead.. gut shot and a couple days old.. but we have seen him around a couple times this season.. anyway... 22 5/8 wide 10 point buck.. We are going to mount it European style and put it on display in the hunting shack.. Anyway.. my daughter took the picture with my son holding the deer.. I tagged it so we could legally mount it without paying the DNR an extra fee.. the coyotes and wolves had most of the hind quarters and guts ate already.. big deer though. |

Man......thats a HUGE buck. It's a shame he met his demise that way. I had some steaks from the nub buck my friend gave me last night........oh man......was it GOOD!!! Super tender! |

They aren't anything to mess around with... http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/28005680/?GT1=43001Quote:updated 8:02 p.m. CT, Mon., Dec. 1, 2008
SEDALIA, Mo. - A hunter bagged a big buck on the second day of firearms season, but the kill caused him a lot of pain. Randy Goodman, 49, said he thought two well-placed shots with his .270-caliber rifle had killed the buck on Nov. 19. Goodman said the deer looked dead to him, but seconds later the nine-point, 240-pound animal came to life.
The buck rose up, knocked Goodman down and attacked him with his antlers in what the veteran hunter called "15 seconds of hell." The deer ran a short distance and went down, and died after Goodman fired two more shots.
Soon Goodman started feeling dizzy and noticed his vest was soaked in blood.
So he reached his truck and drove to a hospital, where he received seven staples in his scalp and was treated for a slight concussion and bruises. |
