I apologize for this lengthy introduction.

Her music just sticks to me. The more I have listened to her, the more it resonates.

...Language barrier be damned, and that is hard to do.

At first you might not "see it", but I dare you to listen to her sing for 20 minutes and not get hooked by it.

You have probably never heard of her, and she doesn't speak a lick of English, yet she is seriously in the running as the most popular singer on Earth right now.

Her name is (English Equivalent) Alan Dawa Dolma. In Japan and China, they just call her Alan. It all started for her (hitting the big-time) when she sang the theme song for "Red Cliff." She is a Tibetan Buddhist, and has topped the charts in three languages.

If you haven't seen/heard of the movie:

Quote:
Red Cliff is a Chinese epic-war film based on the Battle of Red Cliffs (208-209 AD) and events during the end of the Han Dynasty and immediately prior to the period of the Three Kingdoms in ancient China. The film was directed by John Woo, and stars Tony Leung, Takeshi Kaneshiro, Zhang Fengyi, Chang Chen, Hu Jun, Lin Chi-ling and Zhao Wei.
Within Asia, Red Cliff was released in two parts, totaling over four hours in length. The first part was released in July 2008 and the second in January 2009. Outside of Asia, a single 2 hour film was released in 2009, though the two-part version was later released on DVD and Blu-ray in the UK. With an estimated budget of US $80 million, Red Cliff is the most expensive Asian-financed film to date. The first part of the film grossed US$124 million in Asia and broke the box office record previously held by Titanic in mainland China

Quote:

Alan Dawa Dolma (Tibetan: ; traditional Chinese: ; pinyin: ln Dwzhum; born in July 25, 1987), professionally known as Alan (stylized as alan) (Japanese: , Chinese: or ), is a female Tibetan-Chinese singer active in the Japanese music industry. Discovered by Avex Trax at an audition in China in 2006, she made her debut in Japan the following year. Her main producer and composer is Kazuhito Kikuchi and she is also known for playing the erhu.
In 2009, her ninth Japanese single "Kuon no Kawa" debuted at #3 on the Oricon weekly charts, the highest ever by a singer from China.

You can search her on youtube just by typing aforementioned "Alan Red Cliff".

Who says I only listen to the old-geezer music? Here's a sneak-peek at her singing...and the movie--- Note at @ 2:32 the arrows and the boats- ya, those are boats-- It would suck to be a sailor there :tongue3: .

Wow. +1

Four thoughts.
1. John Woo is a great filmmaker.
2. She's gorgeous.
3. Her voice is gorgeous.
4. 2+3 = pant pant pant pant pant

Got two songs stuck in my head right now....

One is because of Zombie and Illy talking about Irish music and Dropkick Murphy's, which popped an old favorite of mine back into my head.

And a song that's quite popular over here and is on MTV and TMF constantly.

This one is stuck in my head because you mentioned Zombie.

BTW, gets me thinking.. What happens if zombieslayer and Rob Zombie meet?

Oh yeah, and the following is now stuck in my head because on one of my playlists from like 6 years ago this song always played right after Dragula..

Two totally different genres here but:

The last track Alice in Chains recorded. To me, the opening guitar riff just kills.

And now a little psychobilly Cadillac from Johnny Cash. A great story song.
