Metallica's Ride the Lightning and Master of Puppets were brilliant. I got to see them in '86 before Cliff Burton died. Then he died. Then Metallica started to suck and became an alternative band. Black Sabbath started it all. Sabbath was heavy, but Judas Priest put the Metal in Heavy Metal. Nightwish is the first band I heard that actually pulled off Symphonic Metal. I've always wanted it to be done but every previous attempt was cheesy. Or worse. Pack93z - I got to see the chick from 4NonBlondes when she went solo. She's a heck of a performer. Very charismatic. And very "worn." Life wasn't easy on her. |

The retro glasses were quite fashionable a year or two ago. Still are, but not as popular, anymore. I think 1 out of every 5 students were wearing them at one point. The turning chairs are put in so that the judges can't go by looks. It was an idea from the small guy in the video. He only wanted to judge in a show that he could actually win based on his voice, and not on his looks. I must admit that I only saw the show once, but that guy is like a Susan Boyle-mini when it comes to popularity over here. |

The Vikings caused that one.
They played it halfway through our game. Been stuck in my head this week. Even put it back on my Zen. |

That guy is pretty good, Pack.
I hate the Beatles, but Santana makes this song actually good.

You know, you listen to guitar greats like Santana or Knopfler or Chet Atkins or Django Reinhardt or Les Paul, and you realize just how important experience is for instrumental music. The greats are like fine brandy, they just get better and better until whenever it is that they die. And whenever they die, you know we've missed even better.

None of the above. It wouldn't have been a wasted vote. Obama and Romney -- Those were the wasted votes. |

This probably should go in the "great voice" thread instead, but I'm too lazy to find it.
This is the only *non-traditional* version of the Star-Spangled Banner I've ever liked.
This man, to me, had one of the top ten all time voices...

Anyone else notice with the greatest songs, you have a hard time picking which version is your favorite...

Well, one more for those still under the false impression that Metalheads are stupid meatheads. This is Manowar.

Gotta love a metalhead who can sing opera -- and not only that, but also have some semblance of muscular development, instead of looking like a sack of skin and bones.

FYI - Pavarotti said Rob Halford (Judas Priest) has "one of the 10 best voices in the world." Supposedly, Pavarotti in real life was a real cool guy, and quite funny. I was bummed when he died as with Dio and Freddie Mercury, I never got a chance to see him live.
Pavarotti worked with Princess Diana at abolishing land mines, which I thought was a great cause. The original woman behind that fight I strongly thought deserved a Nobel Peace Prize way above Al Gore and President Obama. Land mines stay around long after war's over.
Speaking of Rob Halford, I've always wondered how he pulled off singing this live. They didn't play it either time I saw Priest live.

NSD - You'd be proud of Halford. Even in his late 50s, he's got good musculature. |
