Its eerie to realize how much difference a year doesnt make in the world of Favre Watch. Even so, theres still no better source on Brett Favre around the NFL than our own Steve Mariucci.

Mariucci has been texting back-and-forth with Favre on Tuesday, and delivered this message: Everyone needs to calm down a little bit.

According to Mariucci, Favre told him hes simply trying to get healthy and has no timetable from the Vikings to report to training camp. Not only that, the Vikings would prefer if Favre waited until he was fully healed and then show up to Eden Prairie, similar to what he did last year.

Right now his ankle is improving, Mariucci told NFL Network. Its not where it needs to be yet. Obviously that probably can affect your conditioning level, if he cant run as he could last year, with just the shoulder injury. So really, he hasnt retired officially yet. Hes trying to see where his ankle goes, still.

He hasnt told anybody officially, Im done. Hes been hopeful to see if he can be healthy, but hes not quite healthy yet. Theres no press conference, theres no announcement, theres nothing imminent. He just simply has another week or so to see if his ankle does continue to improve, and then see if he can do it again.

Mariucci indicated Favre is trying like crazy to get his ankle healthy, even working out in his yard on Tuesday.

Actually, it's the guys out of Minnesota and Jay Glazer that I believe broke the story. Although, Visanthe Shianco did tell Scott Van Pelt that players had received word from Favre that he was retiring. There was also a very intense meeting among front office personnel in Minnesota. There was some fire here.

Hoopla.

Anyway, the Shainco bit will be interesting.. Remember he didn't get any text messages.. he just heard that other players were getting them. I wonder if the other players were just pulling his leg or what. Anytime something that involves this many people.. things tend to get complicated.

Viking players working together? Kind of like they did with 12 men in the huddle during a meaningless NFC Championship game? lol


It would be hilarious if a handful of players said, hey Brett text me saying he's retiring. Something bout a bum ankle. Let's tell ESPN. Did I really get a text? No, but this shit will be funny!
