New Stadium dealIf true VR and Formo won't have to move to LA. Congrats guys. Personally I thought they should have built on the empty ground in St Paul. Quote: The Minnesota Vikings have reached a preliminary agreement with Minneapolis and the state of Minnesota on a new stadium, according to a report in the Minneapolis Star Tribune.
The report, citing multiple sources who spoke Friday on condition of anonymity, said the sides agreed on the division of costs for a $975 million stadium on a site at or near the Metrodome, the Vikings' home since 1982.
Sources told the Star Tribune the city would pay $150 million in construction costs and roughly $180 million in operating costs over the next 30 years, while the state would pay $398 million and the Vikings would pay $427 million.
The sources said other details, including cost overruns, still had to be ironed out, but that an announcement was expected next week.

I always enjoyed the whole downtown experience of the Dome.. but I'm with you, I've always been in support of the Arden Hills site. The place is a dump, the roads there NEED fixing, and it's a whole lot of space to tailgate. Win-win-win. But this is the MN legislature we are talking about here. More dysfunctional than the Vikings FO by far. And as far as the 'report' goes... I'll believe it when they actually break ground on the new stadium. The Vikings had preliminary deals in Anoka and Ramsey counties and nothing but hot air came from them. So as of right now, this is just another scarecrow as far as I'm concerned. | Thanks to TheViking88 for the sig!! |

Nice to know that Minnesota politicos remain just as big morons as politicians everywhere.

Well, hope it works out. I like the old Packers/Bears/Vikings/Lions division. Don't want to see it change. | My man Donald Driver (thanks to Pack93z for the pic) 2010 will be seen as the beginning of the new Packers dynasty. |

Yeah. But to be fair, they haven't outlined WHERE exactly that money is coming from.. I'm hearing A LOT that the public money will either come from a new TC based casino, run by the White Earth tribe on a non-reservation land that will net the state 50% of it's income or from electronic pull tabs. There's also talks about the public sharing in the stadium naming rights, the increased value of the team and Wilf’s surrounding real estate development. Which, according to a St. Paul business consultant, would net the public $2 billion (returning the public money and then some) Anyway they slice it, there are going to be people pissed off. I agree with you, though, in that the MN politics are morons. | Thanks to TheViking88 for the sig!! |

I liked the thought of the Arden Hills ammunition plant. Maybe some old ordinance laying around that will end up under the field.
Ponder goes back to pass BOOOOOM!!!!
Maybe they should try next to the Basilica of St Mary. Having Viking invaders worshipped next to the sacred ground of the catholic church would be historically ironic.
I hear God already hates the Vikings.
| I'm just waiting for the other shoe to hit the fan. |

Bringing that up again really intrigues me. http://www.twincities.co...s.com-www.twincities.comIt's news that keeps pumping out of the fish wrap factories in the TC. That is only one of many articles that I have skimmed. I'm not saying it will happen, and I don't even think it has much chance as the Gov. openly stated that he doesn't think the money is as stable as they are claiming. My point with using the White Earth tribe's casino information is that there are plenty of non-taxpayer options that have been thrown out. Meaning, there's no guarantee that the State/County money used for the stadium would be from the taxpayers until the details are released. | Thanks to TheViking88 for the sig!! |

You realize Formo that many people feel revenues from gambling is just an extra income tax on the poor? Good luck, I hope you get your stadium. | |

I know you guys all think I'm just this right-wing neo-con.. but there are many things I don't agree with the 'Repub' party-line.. And the anti-gambling sentiment in the GOP is one of them. For a party that's supposedly pro-liberty, they have weird ways of expressing it. And what I'd say to those people, no matter where their allegiances lay, is how ludicrous that line of thinking is. Taxes are mandatory. No one is forcing ANYONE to go to casinos and blow their money. Thus, taxes =/= gambling. | Thanks to TheViking88 for the sig!! |
