I've always hated the idea of owning car and making payments. I did it once when I was 18, swore I'd never do it again. Then I was told all of the negative crap was taken off my credit report and only my stuff was left. My original plan was to drop $3k on a 5k car and make payments to help build my credit. But living in Colorado and driving to Wisconsin two or three times a year, I wanted a safe vehicle that was reliable for my girls. I really liked the Forte when I had one for a week.

Off the lot was just over $14k. I put 4 down. And now that I'm back living in Wisconsin, no longer needing to make said drive, ... paying hundreds of dollars for car payment and insurance every month is starting to bother me. The only setback is the car is basically the only 'reward' I have for how far I've come. When I drive it, I feel like I've gotten somewhere. I dunno how to explain it. It's almost like a trophy.

But any trophy that you lose this much money on ... I dunno if it's worth it ... especially since it's obviously not helping my credit score improve with Chase Bank ... enough to get a damn loan.

I think credit ratings in general are quite ridiculous. I've had two student loans, a car loan, a credit card, and a couple other things on my credit history with zero missed payments and my deadbeat ex-roommate who spent a solid 80% of his income on food and booze (and didn't pay rent) happened to have a better credit score than I did when we first moved in. And my rating is still "good". The entire system is designed into training people into borrowing large percentages of their income and make a fortune off of them in interest. Buncha horseshit.

OR it will go forever. Flip a coin, those are the approximate odds, imo.

People really need to start getting back to the old ways of doing business. Buy only what you can pay for. The hell with credit cards and loans. And if you do use your credit card, pay it off every month.

I live fairly frugally and keep roughly six months worth of rent/food saved up at all times but if my car blew up and the wife's fell apart I'd still be in a spot where I can either blow my emergency fund on a $3000 car or get a more reliable car for more like $6-7k and suddenly have a car loan to worry about. Big ticket items are very, very hard to not go into debt over - who the heck is going to keep ~$8000 sitting around in a bank account instead of paying off student loans or investing?

No reason to have two debts at once if I can avoid it, sadly it'll probably be 5 years before I get to that point but meh. I'm 25 and the wife's 23 for context.

Some of the people I was talking about are 28-33 and still living with their parents, constantly put in 50% at work, spend all their money on computer stuff then demand to work from home when their car breaks down and they can't fix/replace it. That's the sort of attitude that pisses me off, but yeah, there are a ton of people out there that live within their means and get screwed by life.

I just bought a 2007 silverado back in November just to help build my credit or as I said "to become an American because most Americans are in debt". But the thing is I switched jobs and with the pay increase covers the truck payment so I am not really hurting myself. My student loans are paid off, house is paid off and my other car is paid off and my 2 quads are paid off. So I say Zero find a way to get yourself a payment you can live with.

Ok also a really big reason I am not worried is because I am not married or have kids.
Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be 🙂 (PS, Zero should charge for this)

dfosterf (18m) : Apparently it is too complicated for several to follow your simple instructions, but I digress
dfosterf (20m) : Zero- Did you see what I posted about Voice of Reason and his wife? She posted over at fleaflicker that they are both "In"
Zero2Cool (23h) : Well, not crazy, it makes sense. Crazy I didn't notice/find it earlier
Zero2Cool (23h) : it's crazy how one stored procedure to get data bogged everything down for speed here
dfosterf (23h) : to herd cats or goldfish without a bowl. They reminded me of the annual assembly of our fantasy league
dfosterf (23h) : out on a field trip, outfitting them with little yellow smocks. Most of the little folk were well behaved, but several were like trying

Zero2Cool (4-Aug) : Packers sign CB Corey Ballentine
Zero2Cool (4-Aug) : I'm not sure how to kill the draft order just yet so it's not so confusing.
Mucky Tundra (4-Aug) : *to be able
Mucky Tundra (4-Aug) : and because it's not a dynasty league (which makes a lot more sense to be ability to trade picks)
Mucky Tundra (4-Aug) : Oh I know; I was just exploring and it blew my mind that you could trade picks because of the whole reordering thing
Mucky Tundra (4-Aug) : Zero, I think I preferred my offer: your 1st for my 15th rounder
Zero2Cool (4-Aug) : Keep in mind, we do a draft reorder once all members locked in
Zero2Cool (4-Aug) : You can have my 12th Rd for your 2nd round

Martha Careful (2-Aug) : Congratulations Sterling Sharpe. He was terrific and I loved watching him play.
beast (2-Aug) : I believe it's technically against the CBA rules, but Jerry just calls it a simple unofficial chat... and somehow gets away with it.
beast (2-Aug) : Jerry Jones is infamous for ̶n̶e̶g̶o̶t̶i̶a̶t̶i̶n̶g̶ chatting with players one on one... and going around the agent.
Mucky Tundra (1-Aug) : Oo just saw a blurb saying that Dallas negotiated directly with Parsons and not through his agent
Mucky Tundra (1-Aug) : I assumed that both guys will get paid, just a matter of when or how we get there
Zero2Cool (1-Aug) : McLaurin nor Micah going anywhere. They will get money
Mucky Tundra (1-Aug) : the Synder years or do they take care of one of their own?
Mucky Tundra (1-Aug) : Do the Commanders risk losing a top WR with an emerging QB just because he's turning 30 and potentially risk damaging the rebuild from
Mucky Tundra (1-Aug) : Turns 30 this September, plays at a high level and Washington has some cap space I believe
Mucky Tundra (1-Aug) : More interesting is Washington with Terry McLaurin
Mucky Tundra (1-Aug) : I would imagine Dallas will resolve this issue with a truckload of money
Zero2Cool (1-Aug) : Micah pulling a Myles with trade request
beast (1-Aug) : Packers should make some cheese forks
