Huh? Try again? Why? At no point will he conclude Jordy is a 1 and there is no point that you won't.

You have to wonder if part of the reason RC18 didn't stick around is because he knew if he went elsewhere he may have become Greg Jennings...same with Jordy. This argument that Jordy put up numbers with our backups is funny considering Cobb was gone due a broken leg. All of a sudden Jarrett Boykin has to play and people are comparing him to Alshon Jeffery with backup QB's. Boykin's numbers if averaged out properly with number of starts (16 to 16)
are right there with Jordy's for that season, but Jordy is a #1 WR and Boykin is...a guy who couldn't make our roster. Think. For the love of....think.

Jordy Nelson stats are inflated!! I agree with this and this is one of the counter points (I had three when I wrote the piece) I was hoping to be brought up.

I will soft counter that point with the Wide Receivers proposed as being TRUE WR1 over Jordy Nelson play within a controlled climate.

Dome - Lions have Calvin Johnson
Dome - Falcons have Julio Jones and Roddy White
Dome - Cowboys have Dez Bryant
Dome - Cardinals have Larry Fitzgerald
Dome - Colts have T.Y. Hilton

Each of the mentioned names also has a top level QB throwing him the ball. And also if you recall back when Sterling Sharpe was here, Brett admitted that he would just force the ball to Sharpe when in trouble. Interesting.

Its been my opinion for a while that we don't have a #1 WR and haven't for a long time, we typically had 3 or 4 #2s which is what has been great about this team and why they have been able to fill in when one leaves or goes out. Unfortunately over we don't have that depth we had before, we had 2 #2's and a handful of #4 or 5s and now only have 1 #2.

Call it whatever the fuck you guys want. We hashed it out in another thread. Dez's contract is comparable to Cobb and Nelson's contracts combined. But Cobb and Nelson combine for more production.

No corp of DBs in the league is as deep as our WR corps. That's a legit strategy, and it seems to be working quite well.

Remember when Sterling went down with that neck injury? Everyone was worried about Bert. Well as it turned out, Bert actually did better when he spread the ball around, instead of always looking for that "#1."

But yeah. "#1" is just a goddamn label.

Can Jordy beat a team's best, or "number one" CB? Yeah. So he's a legit #1 WR, imo. But it doesn't matter how you label him. The production is there.

This thread is interesting because you can pretty much tell who is going to be who without even reading their viewpoints...there are those who seem to oversell players, coaches, and the GM of this franchise because they are Packers and they are Packers fans, and there are fans of this team who aren't quite as sentimental. Different perspectives. I think each side occasionally weaves into the other perspective but quickly finds that their comfort level is in the other one.

The good news is Jordy is not a true #1 WR and therefore replaceable...the bad news is Jordy has 7 years of working with Aaron and that is not replaceable.

Robert Brooks wasn't a #1 WR and when he went down there were struggles even with TWO productive TE's in Keith Jackson and Mark Chmura.

When Sharpe ended in a heap we were forcing too many balls his way because he was great. I'm not even sure Aaron does need a #1 WR because he wouldn't be worried about getting it to him all the time as he doesn't force much.

We tried forcing it to Finley too much from a scheme perspective...he goes out after 4 weeks and we end up winning the SB with a diversified attack. If Aaron over Jordied it because Jordy is truly a #1...we just might be better as long as guys can run the right routes.

I guess Jerry Rice really wasn't a #1 wide receiver either... I mean he only spent the vast majority of his career with hall of fame quarterbacks and a hall of fame coach. He didn't have the #1 type speed or size either.

Honestly I think this argument is stupid. Everyone is going to have a different definition of what a #1 WR is.

Not really too much different than Emmitt vs. Barry. Sanders clearly the more special back...not even close but one guy got to run behind the best line in NFL history and the other didn't. Heck, Walter Payton or Barry behind the Cowboys line? I can't even imagine.

I don't know what you have to do to explain to people that having a quarterback with pin point accuracy makes receivers better than they really are. Maybe a two-by-four upside the head might jar something loose?

And this is for you Uffda, having a quarterback with pin point accuracy makes up for that .25 in speed you crave in players.

That is all!
