Janis is still a good returner and a very good gunner. Even if he doesn't improve much as a WR he's still probably got a spot locked up because of ST.

IMO the only locks are Nelson, Cobb, and Montgomery if his injury heals and even then he will make the team and be placed on IR.

Let's not forget there are now 2 spots available on the PS for veteran players.
Not exactly sure who qualifies, but am almost certain Abbey would.
They will find a way to keep all 7 to start the season if needed.
The Packer roster will only be stronger if that happens.
Another team will get a very good player if one of the 7 is released.

If Abby is cut he will land on another team's 53.

Cutting him is not TeddyT's style. He will keep him for the full contract and if he doesn't show signs of improvement, not offer him an 2nd one. (perhaps the toe-sprain will play into how they can justify keeping him. They certainly have enough cap space.)

But if he really struggles this offseason and the other receivers look good, there's precedent for Ted to ship him out.

The overwhelming majority of his second round draft picks have been productive players, a good number have been pro bowlers even. The second round players Ted Thompson has kept have largely been worth keeping.
