If a WR is selected in this draft up high, it would appear that one on our 53 would have to go good bye.

Who would it be?

Nelson
Adams
Cobb
Allison
Davis
Janis

NON 53
Antwan Goodley
Max McCaffrey (save for Atlanta playoff game)

Looking at the list, the only scenarios that make a lot of sense to me is waiving Allison, or in a cap cutting move, Randall Cobb OR Jeff Janis.

Jeff just never got it. I love the guy but it is painful to watch him fight the position so much. He's a stud on ST's but even there his football instincts just aren't very good. A guy with a 30 on the wonderlic who looks completely football dumb at times. Just disappointing. Gotta believe he just doesn't love football which is a shame as he should be so much further along than he is.

Somehow, our offense never learned to incorporate his talents. He's dumb on the field but there are some things he can do like run reverses, catch slants, etc. His speed just wasted. I know we tried him on go routes but he's so unnatural there. His hail mary catch was a thing of beauty and I'm kind of surprised we never really threw him another jump ball type play ever again. Thought he could excel there.

Does he provide enough ST value to stick if we draft another WR up high? I once thought he did, but, again, he's just so erratic. Hard to trust a player like him and that's what got Jeremy Ross the boot with us. Jeff has more talent but it might be Jeremy Ross time for him, even if we don't draft someone up high. Will be very curious to see if the people's champion makes the 53 this coming year as I doubt he makes a 4th year jump.

Ted Thompson sits on his hands per former GM: "because they’ve had 25 fricking years of great quarterbacks. Of course it works. Try it without a special quarterback."

I wouldn't expect him to make the starting roster next year. He is far enough down the WR depth already and I expect Mike and Ted to want that spot for a younger player to develop.

I don't see him going anywhere this coming year.
7th round pick, only because of his straight line speed.

Didn't know a darn thing about route running coming in, carved himself out a place on ST's as a really good gunner.

I sat they give him this year, could be he is a late bloomer and the light will go on.

Except for his broken hand last year, he has stayed relatively healthy.

Jordy, Randall, Davante, Geronimo, Trevor, and Jeff.

I like the depth as it is.

Ted has drafted WR in every draft except 2012 usually more than one and they will be looking for space for them as well.

Packers kept 7 WRs this last year... if the bottom guys show up enough the Packers would probably be willing to do it again.

Janis is on his rookie deal and at times can be a ST stud... we kept Jarrett Bush around how long because he was a ST stud?

I heard that Cobb is the 7th highest paid WR in the NFL. I can see them cutting him because of his high price.
I really like the guy, and would hate to see him go. But you know Ted....

Either him or Davis. If Davis isn't good (improved) enough next year to see the field with any consistency or be activated there isn't really much reason to have him on the roster. They probably aren't going to put specific plays in just to make use of his speed and he doesn't really seem to have the physicality that makes Janis a good ST. We've seen Janis be able to come in and produce as an emergency but no idea what Davis is capable of at this point. Janis roster spot next year I think depends on how much Trevor improves or doesn't.
