Bears coach John Fox won a challenge he wished he would have lost in Sunday afternoon's 23-16 loss to the Packers. Fox challenged that running back Benny Cunningham was not out of bounds at the 2-yard-line with just over eight minutes left in the first half because he thought Cunningham had scored. After consulting with [more]

I was in my car listening to the bares broadcast. They kept going over and over how they thought he stepped out and they didn't see how it could be called a TD. I cracked up when I heard the call and listened to them moaning in the booth. They never expected THAT ruling.

After the game I was watching the bares post game show.
Bears Postgame comments- LAURENCE HOLMES said "That was the worst result of an NFL challenge, ever." While the play was being reviewed, form DE for the bares, Alex Brown was saying, "Don't challenge it".

We've gotten hosed plenty of times this season. Nice to have one go our way.

Definitely seemed like the conspiracy theory was on our side today, overall.

That was definitely a kick in the nuts for the bares. Ruling is 1st and goal at the 2, nah lets challenge that! What's the worst thing that could happen? 🤣

Wonder how much coaches are going to challenge plays like this in the future. This is the second time this season a review resulting in a good result becoming a bad one. The other was a booth review of a scoring play and the same result.

What do you have to GAIN from challenging that? A chance to change it from 1st and goal at the 2, to a TD. Guaranteed points and there's no guarantee you'll get it in the endzone from the 2, but high likelihood.

What do you have to LOSE from challenging that? Losing the challenge + TO, having the ball moved back further if he actually went out earlier, or even having

Now, having the call be overturned and having it go AGAINST you is pretty rare, but whoever's watching the replays and letting Fox know whether to challenge or not HAD to have seen the ball move and if they didn't, I have no clue what they were looking at. I don't blame them for maybe thinking his foot went down OOB before the ball started coming out (which is what I initially thought), but it's clear the ball was coming out before it hit the pylon - which means, you have nothing to gain by challenging and everything to lose.

How were they able to switch possession? Possession wasn't what was being reviewed. Obviously, MM would've thrown the challenge flag if he had any clue this would be a possible outcome. We were the ones who would've challenged possession, not Chicago.

Ted Thompson sits on his hands per former GM: "because they’ve had 25 fricking years of great quarterbacks. Of course it works. Try it without a special quarterback."

Example, Team throws the ball on 3rd down the play is ruled a completion and the ball is spotted 1/2 yard past the LOS for a first down. The defensive team challenges the spot of the ball. During the review it is seen that ball hit the ground while not under control. The ruling on the field would be changed to an incompletion and the ball returned to the previous spot.
