The Packers need to trade for Le'Veon Bell.

Do whatever it takes. Send a first-round pick. Send four. Who gives a (expletive)? You own the Saints' first-round pick, in addition to your own, in next year's draft anyway. The Packers are on the verge of the Super Bowl. One that looked like it was going to be ripped from you for a few moments there on Sunday night. Embrace this. The Football Gods gave you a second chance. Make the most of it.

Now, I know Bell has to sign his franchise tender before he can be traded, and I'm not going to get into the salary-cap complications or anything like that. Football people know how to make that stuff work. Besides, I'm the ideas guy. I'm like Steve Jobs walking into a room of brilliant people and telling them I want all of the music in the world in a device the size of a potato chip. [Snaps fingers] Make it happen! This really makes sense for both teams.

On the one hand, the idea is intriguing as hell. Pair the best quarterback in the league with the best running back in the league. What could possibly go wrong? What defense could realistically hope to withstand this kind of two-pronged attack?

On the other hand, I'm not sure Mike McCarthy has the mentality necessary to maximize such an abundance of assets. If his history is anything to go by, I think he'd squander far too many valuable opportunities trying to force his offense into being a safe run-first system instead of letting it rip and taking what the defense gave him. But the prospect of the kind of dominant play action and clock control Bell would offer is enough to make me salivate.

Imagine that offense in the red zone. 🤤

I can even see how a transaction like this might extend Rodgers' career. Shield him from absorbing so many hits for a few years.

Assuming the line could figure out how to block, of course. Always a dicey proposition in Green Bay.

It won’t happen.
It’s nice to think about though.
But to think about it hurts too, as it makes it more frustrating when it doesn’t happen.

Three reasons not to.
1. Money
2. Our offensive line
3. Mike McCarthy

It's risky to throw some draft picks around for a player who could be a one-year rental. Not that risky, though, since you have the Saints' 2019 first-round selection. Teams like to hoard their draft picks like they are gift cards. I mean, you know how you get a gift card and think, "Wow, this is great." And then you hold on to it because you want to make sure the purchase you are making is gift-card worthy. Then you end up keeping it in your drawer for years before eventually throwing it away. In fact, a recent study said that 87 percent of gift cards retain more than a third of their value when they are discarded. And while I'm making that up, it's true that way less than half of the players selected in the first round will be Pro Bowlers. In fact, of the 159 players selected in the first round from 2013-2017, 39 have made the Pro Bowl. And one of them was Amari Cooper. You really wouldn't waste a late-first-round pick on a player like Bell? Stop being so precious.

No way. Not for that money and the picks we'd have to give up and not with our O-Line. Especially with multiple credible run options. Bell will be an upgrade but his talents will be wasted with our line and the way the playcalling's gone so far in this extremely brief season. It'll get better.

I wouldn't even want to trade a 5th rounder for the privilege of paying any RB 15 million a year.

I was hoping you were going to say that Green Bay is the Pet Sematary for running backs.

Green Bay is where running backs go to die.

As has been pointed out a few times already, the GB OL is a pass blocking line. They are not suited for rush blocking. There first step is backwards and then set up a wall. Rush blocker go forwards and smack the DL driving them out of the hole. That's not the forte for this line. It would be a waste of resources to bring in Bell.
