I see what the numbers say and I still say a good pass rush makes your secondary better MORE than a good secondary makes your pass rush. I suppose the question then is which is easier to achieve? A good pass rush or good coverage?

Anyhow, what do you folks think about what I said and also about the graphics here?

The rules have changed so much to favor the offense, especially deep passing highlight rules that all the old strategies must be re-evaluated.

DPI is a joke, but so is breathing on a QB.

I'm a big believer in numbers. How much of a timeline do those graphs come from? Is it just last season?

Those graphs are utterly meaningless. For one thing, the dependent variable (win percentage) is on the X-axis instead of the Y-axis. For another thing, win percentage is a discrete variable, not a continuous variable, so Pearson coefficient ("r² value") is an inappropriate measure of correlation for this relationship.

If you think I'm crazy for saying that win percentage isn't a discrete variable, look closer at those graphs and see how the dots all line up in perfect columns. Had "Magnus Bendixen" expressed the values as wins instead of win percentage, this would have been instantly apparent to everyone.

Correlation is not necessarily causation...

Recently, there was an inane article published in a medical publication which asserted that doing 40 push-ups led to lower coronary risk. It three weeks for a doctor to finally explain that the article BS because of the fact that people who are in good enough shape to do 40 push-ups are generally in better cardio-vascular shape because THEY WORK OUT......DUH

So as it concerns the topic at hand, in addition to being statistically flawed, as DrNSD as enumerated. The variables are co-dependent as well.

The man may have a point to the extent most bookies will tell you that injuries to the cornerback position is second only to quarterback (LT very important too)

Give me the rush guys, give me cover guys....you need both.

All that said, Pettine's system is based on the idea of getting cover guys.

I did the 40 pushups, yet ended up having 6 coronary artery blockages that required a quadruple bypass surgery.

Of course my 40 pushups were over a 40 year span!😂

You need a good pass rush, which makes it easier on your DBs. But your DBs STILL need to be good.
What it comes down to is, you need BOTH.

Wins in and of themselves are a horrible way to distinguish how good a secondary is. Why did the teams win/lose? The defense might give up 35 points a game but if the offense gets 40 points the TEAM wins. Another defense might give up 15 points a game but their offense only scores 10 points. They lose.

Then again a DL might get a sack/fumble that a DB runs back for a TD. The back gets credit but it was the lineman who caused the event. Or maybe the DL tipped the ball that floated to the DB who was no where near the intended receiver.

In the end it's yin and yang. A good pressure rush creates more opportunities for the secondary and better coverage means the qb will have to hold the ball longer allowing the DL to apply more pressure. The defense is a team and needs to preform as a team.

Ive seen Dr.NSD referenced a few times so I have to ask...Who/what is DrNSD

beast (2-Aug) : Jerry Jones is infamous for ̶n̶e̶g̶o̶t̶i̶a̶t̶i̶n̶g̶ chatting with players one on one... and going around the agent.
Mucky Tundra (1-Aug) : Oo just saw a blurb saying that Dallas negotiated directly with Parsons and not through his agent
Mucky Tundra (1-Aug) : I assumed that both guys will get paid, just a matter of when or how we get there
Zero2Cool (1-Aug) : McLaurin nor Micah going anywhere. They will get money
Mucky Tundra (1-Aug) : the Synder years or do they take care of one of their own?
Mucky Tundra (1-Aug) : Do the Commanders risk losing a top WR with an emerging QB just because he's turning 30 and potentially risk damaging the rebuild from
