DeBauche, other punters workout

Former Bay Port High School and University of Wisconsin punter Ken DeBauche was among four punters who worked out for the Packers today.

DeBauche signed with the Packers as a free agent after the draft but was released shortly before training camp opened.

The other punters were: former Pro Bowler Scott Player, Zac Atterberry and Waylon Prather.

Player is the only one who has kicked in an NFL regular-season game. He played for the Arizona Cardinals from 1998 to 2006 and made the Pro Bowl in 2000. He punted for the Cleveland Browns last season and was signed by the New England Patriots this offseason but did not make the team. In 727 career punts, he has career averages of 43.1 (gross) and 36.1 (net).

DeBauche, Waylon and Atterberry have no NFL experience.

The Packers also worked out long snapper Kevin Garvoille of UW-Whitewater.

Most teams work out players on Tuesday. The fact that the Packers did so on Monday could indicate that they are strongly considering cutting punter Derrick Frost and/or long snapper Brett Goode.

We sign Frost without even a tryout just to beat the seahawks to the punch. With frost being a vested veteren we are left hold the bag for his entire contract this year. This sure doesn't make Ted Thompson the sharpest knife in the drawer does it.

I saw Josh Miller was released again.

I'd give him a looksee

The bigger issue is holding for Crosby. Unless Flynn has been practicing holding during the week, cutting frost would be a bit challenging.

I think Ken DeBauche would be a heck of an upgrade at this point.. plus he is an experienced holder to boot.

It's a different world. In the NFL, there's FOOTAGE. A LOT OF IT. There's background information at your fingertips, just by picking up a phone and talking to your employees and the new guy's former employers.

I personally am going to send video footage to my potential new employer. Because that's how it works.

As for hiring Frost in the first place. These are the types of things Thompson does. Does he get every move right? Lord no.

But nobody does.

The good thing is he's smart enough to pull the plug on this abortion of a pickup and move on, instead of keeping him around hoping he turns it around so he looks like a genius(aka Mike Sherman-itis).

With that said, thank the LORD that we're getting a new punter. This guy was about to be the new A---d C-----l
