have to do with the Draft?

Campbell is Tony Mandarich 2.0 IMO. He's all flash. There is nothing that stands out on film. I would grab Bryant if I couldn't get a deal to move down in that scenario. His problem is not talent. It's character. That's what it comes down too. He's clearly immature based on some of the stuff reported and how he's reacted to it. So was Jermichael Finley. Maybe Green Bay would be good for him. Maybe not. That's the nature of the NFL draft.

For the record, I don't anticipate Green Bay going Bryant. I'm just pointing out a scenario in which it wouldn't be as far as a stretch as you guys think. That's the Campbell vs. Bryant situation.

That has to be absolutely the first time I have ever heard the criticism of a 314 pound lineman include the phrase, "He's all flash."

I wonder if he has a twitter account. I bet he'd appreciate it if you forwarded that to him, lol

Bryant: Some teams love him, some hate him

I'm going with the evaluator from team 2 (hater) you can click above for the lover if you want.

Evaluator from Team 2:

"Dez's workout was a joke and just reinforced what I already thought about the kid.

He had his entourage with him the entire posse.

After all the (stuff) he's pulled so far, he needed to show some professionalism at his pro day and he failed to do that.

He didn't look like he had prepared much for the workout and he even forgot his shoes!

How do you forget your shoes when you are auditioning for millions of dollars?

He's even more stupid than I thought. He's a very immature kid and he's got bust written all over him even though he has great talent."

Anyone think maybe Bryant wants to slip down the board so he will goto a decent team not a shitty team? Just thought I would throw that out there.
Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be 🙂 (PS, Zero should charge for this)

I've considered the same possibility myself. But I doubt he has the intelligence to be so foresighted. 😉 Besides, sliding down the boards will drastically reduce his paycheck.

There has probably never been a workout from an offensive limeman like the one he gave at the Combine. In that context, he's all flash. However, on film, meh.... There is nothing about him on film the makes him a better prospect than say Charles Brown. He's a guy that looks the part, but doesn't play it well. Personally, that seems to be the consensus with him.

You don't like Charles much either, as I recall. You gave a hypothetical regarding Campbell and Bryant, so I had to give an answer.

I give a lot more deference to Mike Mayock of NFLN than many fans, and he agrees with your "ranking" of Charles Brown and Bruce Campbell as "tied for 5th" in the rankings of offensive tackles. I think it especially important to pay close attention to Mayock as contrasted to some of the other draft gurus when talking about offensive tackles.

Why do I say that? It is my understanding that due to Mayock's affiliation with the NFL itself, he does have access to the same footage that the scouts and GM's are using...they have a word for that game film, it escapes me at the moment. (I want to say "the bundle", but that's probably wrong) It is extremely difficult to attempt to access offensive linemen based on the game film that we have as fans. I know, I have looked at just about everything findable on about 20 of them.

I'm going to assume that Russell Okung and Bryan Bulaga are long gone.

That leaves "my" other 4.

I have liked Trent Williams from the start of this process, have said so repeatedly, in the face of NO ONE else liking him. I still say he is the 3rd best prospect, would love to have him, (I see him as the "perfect" transitional player from RT to LT for our situation) Mayock now agrees with that assessment, at least as far as ranking...color him gone too.

Anthony Davis has been considered by many to be the most NFL ready LT in this draft, including Okung. Mayock has him as the 4th, after the combine, he had some slippage (work ethic stuff, mostly). I keep him at 4, and hold out the possibility that he will be there, but not holding my breath. I have been back and forth on Davis more than any of the others.

Charles Brown has also been called "most ready" as an NFL LT, with the proviso that he goes into a ZBS. He has seen slippage by many of the draft gurus, including Mayock. I think it has more to do with the excellent combine workouts turned in by both Campbell and Williams, contrasted with his relatively slow performance, from a guy that most probably thought would be the fastest. He does have good "film", imo, but again, "my" film isn't "the" film.

Then we get to Campbell. I personally take him over Brown. As I said, Mayock has him tied as the 5th best OT.

So, there we are. Precisely where I started February 11th, as far as the top 6. No one has moved into it, and no one has moved out of it. If Dez Bryant isn't taken by Miami at 12, I will not be one bit surprised to see him on the board at 23, hence this thread. Amazingly ironic that my guess is that Bryant and Campbell will be the big debate in Oakland's war room. (40 time of Campbell/Al Davis, etc.) It is not paranoia, and it is certainly not an easy decision for many if he was there. I just hope that Ted and co. value the so-called "intangibles" as much as I do.

I take any of the 6 over Dez, and it's not close. It gets dicey when you start talking about many of the other names that get bandied about at some other positions, but this is not one them.

I like his (Dez) falling to 23 if it would assist in getting Bellicheat to come off a couple 2nds (plus, imo) in trade so HE can take this MAJOR risk on this PERSON, as contrasted to the information regarding this PLAYER, dependent upon who else is there at 23. Those 2nd round picks look extremely valuable to me.

If we take Dez, I will really try and refrain from the "I told you so's" until Rodgers is taken out in a stretcher or a copy of Bryant's arrest report becomes available for public review.

Good discussion as always, Porky, though I have noticed that you are starting to delve into absolutes, and becoming more strident than in the past. I think I'm a bad influence. :tongue3:

Mayock's criticism rings close to this - workout fiend, but his game tape is average, putting it kindly.

I wouldn't cry if they drafted the guy, but he does freak me out a bit, Mandarich-style.

At 23.. the risk is much lower than the "incredible bust".. not to mention a couple future HOF'ers sitting right behind him.

With all the Roid talk surrounding Tony.. I still can't believe they took him that high.

I honestly don't know why scouts don't just trust the game tape and let this pre-draft hype go by the wayside.. other the the interviews.. what really do you gain from it.

Dez can post the slowest 40 in shorts.. I give a crap less.. on tape you see him getting separation.. that is what matters along with a pair of excellent hands and ball skills when the rock is in the air.

I don't think there's any questions as to if Bryant is an excellent prospect, and if he's at 23 he would be kind of a steal.

But come on, we got 4 startable reciever on this team. There's no way we could fit them all to the field, especially after Finley's emergence.

Planning for the future is fine, but not at the expense of fucking up your current squad.

I'm a huge supporter of an offensive tackle and an OLB, Safety and Corner are also positions of need. BPA from those four positions is the best way to go.
