We're not going to get anything decent for Colledge anyways

I don't agree with this. Well, I guess it depends on decent. Last year, GB got Derrick Martin for Tony Moll and Martin proved to be one of the better special teams players. I think Colledge is worth more than Moll, so you could possibly get something for him. Maybe a No. 3 RB or a return man.

If Spitz and Lang get healthy, I think you can safely move Colledge and still have more than enough depth.. you keep maybe 9 to 10 lineman.

Clifton
Bulaga
Wells
Sitton
Tauscher
Lang

I call them locks.

Now you need to have a backup plan at tackle.. if Breno proves he isn't consistent that helps Colledge's chances of staying.

Guys I expect to stick...

Smith
Newwhouse
Spitz

A guy like McDonald, which I have heard is quietly having a nice camp may give the Packers more long term and maybe just as much short term value as a Colledge.

Fact is.. Colledge is an inconsistent player.. you never know what type of game you are going to get from him. I have said it for two years.. kid can play.. he has shown it.. but then it disappears for no apparent reason.

If you can get something in return that fills a hole on a team this season that is expecting to make a run.. you do it. If not.. yes hold him and let him walk next season.

Does anybody get the feeling that maybe Bulaga is not our LT of the future, and maybe they see more in Newhouse's abilities there. If Bulaga is already in place at LG and doing well, only one position needs to be messed with in the future.

I think it is foolish to trade Colledge right now unless Crazy Al is offering a second rounder.

I would love for that to happen. Bulaga will never be an elite LT, I think. His ceiling isn't that high. He'll always just be solid. That's the main reason I wanted us to double dip at OT and take Charles Brown in the 2nd round.

Problem is, Newhouse is very, very raw. He has the athleticism, but he'll have to improve a whole lot if he ever wants to make it at LT even as a backup. I doubt he even makes hte roster this year. They might try to sneak him on the PS. It all sounds very Meredith-y.

And I don't know why trading away Colledge would be that weird.

If Clifton goes down, Spitz steps in at LG and Bulaga slides to LT. If any guard goes down, Spitz steps in. If Wells goes down, Spitz steps in. If Tauscher goes down, Lang steps in. If you, somehow, get both guards injured, Lang can slide inside, as well.

I'd rather have a more developmental type of guy on the roster. EDS has showed some potential, give him a roster spot. Newhouse wouldn't even have to be cut in that scenario, either.

Slightly off topic, this is a question that's been plaguing me for a while.

There are only 45 players active on gameday. That allows basically one or two substitutes on the active roster. A few linemen are inactive every game. So what happens if a catastrophe results and you burn through all your substitutes? Can you activate another reserve lineman, as you can with the third QB? Or are you stuck shifting defensive linemen, tight ends, or full backs onto the line?

The Cardinals I believe had to do something like that a year or so ago. You're stuck with the 45 you chose before the game.

You also left out Breno G, who I think is on his way to making the team. Though he wasn't that great in the preseason game. But that makes 10.

The numbers are against keeping Colledge and Spitz if Bulaga is the LG to start the season.

I can't see the Packers keeping 11 and I don't think they're going to release Newhouse because they'll just lose him like they loss Jamon Meredith.

I'm going to say that Newhouse has as good as made the team already. In fact, I'll go out on a limb and say he'll make the game day 45 on opening day and, if Clifton gets injured in the latter part of the season, he ends up with a starting shot. If Clifton never gets hurt of course, he sits the entire year; and if Clifton gets hurt early, then Bulaga will switch over to LT.

But I just have a feeling that Bulaga is going to be good enough, quick enough, at LG, that by late season they won't want to rob Peter to pay Paul and Newhouse will have shown enough to get at least one game shot.

And, IMO, he may not let go.

You know there's one nice thing about having Tauscher and Clifton at the tackles right now....they don't need to be given as many preseason reps as some other starters might ... which means people like Newhouse will have more than they might otherwise get.
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

I with you on Newhouse.. I like the kid. I think we knocked it out of the park with the two kids in this draft on the Oline.. add in Lang and Smith from last season.. I think we have truly impacted the depth on this squad positively now and for the future.

Sitton is a young'in as well.. setting the table for another couple of years.

It would be interesting to know what Ted Thompson is thinking right now. We have some players, that if we don't make trades, will have to be cut and won't make it through waivers or the practice squad.
