I'd say, don't hate the guy because the Packers haven't given reason to boast about them in 5 weeks. It's not his fault.

The guy is on the mark. The Packers and Mike McCarthy are not closers. We let teams hang around too long. Mike McCarthy does not have that killer instinct to put a team away when we can. He becomes way to conservative and slacks off from what had been working.

Injuries are an excuse. Ted Thompson drafted the majority of these guys to develop within. No issues with that, but don't give yourself a pass on losing becaue of injuries. You drafted the guys, super GM, make it work.

We've been sucking at the end of the first half, too.

The last three games, we've given up a TD with 26 secs left, a TD with 8 secs left, and a FG with 13 secs left. That's 17 pts in the last 47 secs of those 3 games, combined. Two of those games ended up losses, and wouldn't have been a loss without that score at the end of the half.

In my opinion, we're going to continue to struggle unless we get better at closing out the half and game. We can't afford to keep giving up points like that.

That's something that McCarthy hopefully will be able to address, though.

Hey, the fact that we have a Desmond Bishop, Tramon Williams, etc to step in when a starter goes down shows just what a fantastic job Ted's done building up our depth. We were in a death spiral under Sherman as GM. Trading up in the draft improved the starters but cost draft picks to acquire the decent players behind the starters. We were OK until someone got injured, and then we didn't have anybody to step in. Toss in a couple of bad decisions (trading up to take a punter in the 3rd round who sucked so bad we compounded the problem by carrying TWO punters all year because Sherman didn't want to cut the guy and admit his mistake) and we were on a down-hill slide.

Now, you lose Johnny Jolly, Nick Barnett, etc there's a decent player to step in without a huge loss in talent. In my opinion, Ted does not get NEARLY enough credit for the depth he's built.

What Dilfer lacks is credibility because he was a lousy quarterback, but what he does have is a super bowl ring.

He was not a very good QB, but that has nothing to do with how good he is as an analyst. They are very different jobs. If Dilfer was a dumb QB, that would hurt his credibility, but in his later years he played smart and got the most out of the talent he had.

I think Dilfer is the best analyst around, and he is completely right about this.

macbob makes a good point about the Packers sucking at the end of the half. That's been another big problem.
