Biggest blunder pick: Minnesota taking Christian Ponder.

Classic Vikings. The names and the faces may change but the results are always the same. maybe if they had a new stadium deal in place.

I wonder if they really like what they saw in Ponder, of if they were just desperate to get a QB because of the state of the league right now. Perhaps they just didn't want to get caught without a starting QB.

WINNERS

Detroit Lions - Opposing offensive lines, including the unit protecting Aaron Rodgers' backside, had better bring their "A" games when they face the Lions. With the 13th pick, Detroit took Auburn defensive tackle Nick Fairley (27 tackles for loss, 13 sacks last year). He will team with consensus 2010 rookie of the year Ndamukong Suh, Corey Williams and Kyle Vanden Bosch to give the Lions what should be a dominant defensive line. Fairley was ranked fifth on Mel Kiper's board.

Cam Newton - The Carolina Panthers were desperate for a quarterback. Auburn's Newton was the only QB worth even considering with the No. 1 pick. He played in a run-heavy scheme and faces a steep learning curve in the NFL, but he'll be the face of the franchise and will make a boatload of money.

J.J. Watt - Exhibit A for what hard work, determination and persistence can do. The defensive end from Pewaukee and the University of Wisconsin started out as a tight end at Central Michigan and paid his way to UW. On Thursday, he was the 11th pick in the draft, taken by Houston to help plug holes in a leaky defense. Is this a great country, or what?
LOSERS

Minnesota Vikings - The Vikes reportedly tried hard to trade down. When they couldn't find a partner, they reached for Florida State quarterback Christian Ponder. ESPN analyst Jon Gruden defended the pick, saying Minnesota needed a quarterback and "there is no sure thing in free agency." Still, it's a stretch to project Ponder as a rookie starter, so the Vikings probably will have to sign a veteran.

Commissioner Roger Goodell - With a target on his back because of the ongoing labor strife, the commish was booed lustily when he approached the podium at Radio City Music Hall in New York to commence the draft. Then he proceeded to embrace each draft pick as if he were a long-lost son. Just call him Pete Rozelle Lite.

ROLLING THE DICE

Atlanta Falcons - They moved up in a trade with Cleveland to take physical Alabama receiver Julio Jones. After getting thumped by the Packers, 48-21, in the playoffs, the Falcons obviously felt they needed another playmaker opposite Roddy White to be able to get past Green Bay. They can only hope Jones gives them that dimension. "I think this guy struggled throughout his career to catch the football," Gruden said.

I can't believe how much Atlanta gave up. It looked like the Herschel Walker trade out there. I will LMFAO if Jones winds up being a bust. Besides, Atlanta isn't a receiver away from the SB, they are an entire defense away from the SB. We didn't wind up punting ONCE against them.

Atlanta had the number 5 scoring defense last year and gave up a whooping 2 points more than Chicago did all season. They just ran into an Aaron Rodgers that couldn't be stopped BUT by the hand of God.

That said, they could use another receiver but they have other needs too. They've given up far too much for a receiver that is being criticized for his ability to catch the ball (what the hell else does a receiver do anyway).

Does any one else find irony in the fact that the Patriots stole Gabbert with the 3rd round pick they got by renting Moss to the Vikings for 4 games. While the Viking used the 12 overall to get a 3rd round rated Ponder.

Martha Careful (31-May) : I have never seen an OTA, but who is lining up at LT and RG with starters? or is it all individual drills?
Zero2Cool (30-May) : Bears are the first team to be selected for Hard Knocks

Zero2Cool (13-May) : Sources spoke of many, many times last summer where Hackett called a play, then Rodgers changed it completely at the line
Martha Careful (10-May) : 1. this is true of all our linemen. 2. His run block is fine. 3. If all OL played like he has, we would win SB.
beast (10-May) : Meyers pass blocking is really good, his run blocking is really not.
Zero2Cool (9-May) : Packers have claimed DE Spencer Waege off of waivers from the 49ers and waived DT Rodney Mathews.

Mucky Tundra (9-May) : 4th
Zero2Cool (9-May) : because he's 1st
Mucky Tundra (9-May) : Myers isn't even the 3rd best C on the roster atm
Martha Careful (9-May) : I am not sure I understand the Myers hate. He was consistently our third best lineman. RG and LT were worse.
beast (9-May) : Just saying I don't think moving Myers would help Myers.
beast (9-May) : Center is usually considered the easiest position physically if you can handle the snap stuff.
Mucky Tundra (8-May) : Bust it is then
Zero2Cool (8-May) : Context. Sounds like Myers won't be cross-trained. C or bust.
Mucky Tundra (8-May) : @BookOfEli_NFL Packers pass game coordinator, Jason Vrable said that Jayden Reed and Dontayvion Wicks shared a placed in Florida while train
