EXACTLY!!!! Regardless of the situation. If he had stuffed drugs down his throat, if he had resisted arrest, if he hit a cop, if he did anything to deserve this:

1. The cops would have arrested him and filed a report to cover their asses. The fact that they did not shows me a lot about their intentions that night. They know they did something wrong.

What I want to know is... Who the hell is "Quanell X" who is speaking publically about this in the Houston Press? Who is claiming to represent Marvins family? anyone here ever heard of this guy? He is all over this story?

Quanell was a drug dealer in the Sunnyside community located in southern Houston, Texas.[2] In May 1989 he spent a brief time in jail and received 10 years probation for possessing and dealing crack cocaine. It was during this time that Quanell claims to have had a life changing conversion and decided he would devote his life to the betterment of African-Americans in Houston.

Quanell X Quotes:

"I say to Jewish America: Get ready knuckle up, put your boots on, because we're ready and the war is going down. The real deal is this: Black youth do not want a relationship with the Jewish community or the mainstream white community or the foot shuffling, head-bowing, knee bobbing black community. All you Jews can go straight to hell."[4]

Quanell was forced out of the Nation of Islam for publicly inciting violence with his televised, and highly publicized, exhortation to Houston-area blacks:

"[i]f you feel that you just got to mug somebody because of your hurt and your pain, go to River Oaks and mug you some good white folks. If youre angry that our brother is put to death, dont burn down your own community, give these white folks hell from the womb to the tomb.

NO WONDER MY BELOVED DONALD WANTED TO GET BACK TO GREEN BAY AS SOON AS HE COULD.

Just for some balance here, I want to be fair to Quanell X. I've lived my entire life in Houston and am very familiar with him. Five years ago, I would've told you I hated him. At that time he was nothing more than a race baiting exhibitionist. All he cared about was getting face time.

Recently though, he's actually become a respectable community activist. I don't agree with him on many issues, but he no longer takes "by any means necessary" approach that once did.

It's beyond shocking to me that I'm writing a quasi-defense of Quannel X, but truthfully, he deserves it. And for what it's worth, he's apologized for some of the statements he made above and has taken a different approach to his activism.

Again, it's weird that I'm defending this guy, but he's moved much more towards being a Jesse Jackson than being the Louis Farakhan that he once was.

I am still holding off judgement on anyone in this matter, and mattresell has enlightened me yet again, preventing yet another knee-jerk reaction as regards "Quanell-X."

It is still extremely hard for me to conjure any scenario in my mind that would take DD's dad from the back of a patrol car to the ICU.

Those that are using his past mis-deeds as a possible cause/excuse... I'm no bleeding heart liberal, you can absolutely trust me on that issue... I did watch, LAST NIGHT, on c-span... a convicted felon receiving accolades and an extended standing ovation on the floor of the Senate of the United States of America. Now, I am a fan of Ted Stevens, but facts are facts, so I would suggest that at a minimum we all hold off on judgement of ANYBODY in this very sad situatiuon.
