Wouldn't having a shut down defense right now be absolute Facism? I like the fact that we can make the stops when we need to. I just fear we get into a cold weather playoff game in Lambeau and get shut down on offense and then some lucky play loses us the championship.

I'm pleased that Mike Neal is staying healthy so far. Hopefully he'll be fully adjusted and ready to be a bigger factor once the playoffs begin. I've seen him get a pretty nice push a couple of times only to flush the QB to the other side where there was no pressure. He may not be great, but if he can be better than average, the defense should improve.

Ndamukong Suh is misunderstood.

INT. MASTER BEDROOM, MANSION (DETROIT SUBURBS) DAY

Morning light spilling through the open Venetian blinds
crosses NDAMUKONG SUH's face, waking him.  Suh- 20s, 6'4",
307 pounds, one of the kindest, bravest, warmest, most
wonderful human beings anyone could ever know.

Suh carefully slides out of bed with the grace of a
ballerina, careful not to wake his girlfriend, PEACH.

          INT. MASTER BATH

Suh, a bit groggy, steps to the toilet.  After not lifting
          the seat, he begins urinating...

...all over the seat, smiling.  Finished, he FLUSHES the
          toilet.

          INT. MASTER BEDROOM

Suh comes back in- Peach now AWAKE in bed, the flushing
          having woken her.

                              SUH
                    Morning, Lovely.

                              PEACH
                    Darling.

Peach- 20s, the hair to match her name, a classic damsel
with the pie-baking skills to match.

Suh leans in for a kiss and Peach obliges him before sliding
          out of bed herself.

                              PEACH
                    Gotta put my contacts in.

Peach gives him one last kiss before HEADING INTO the
bathroom.  Suh slips back under the covers, genuinely happy.

                              PEACH (O.S)
                    Uhh... Ndamey baby?

                              SUH
                    Yes, Lovely?

                              PEACH (O.S)
Did you pee all over the toilet
                    seat?  Again?

                              SUH
How many times do I have to tell
                    you, the toilet flushes extremely
powerfully in the morning, a power
that I can relate to!  Ask the man
upstairs if you don't believe me!

INT. OSAKA JAPANESE STEAKHOUSE -- DAY

Suh hands his menu to the charming WAITRESS.

                              SUH
                         (finishing)
                    And the salad, please.

          FIFTEEN MINUTES LATER

The waitress brings Suh his salad.  Suh examines it-

                              SUH
                    Excuse me, what is this?

                              WAITRESS
                    Our house salad.  It's-

                              SUH
I ordered the soup, you monster!
AND YOU CAN TAKE THAT UP WITH GOD!

          I/E CHRYSLER 300 -- DAY

Suh, behind the wheel of his favourite Chrysler, the company
he endorses.  An endorsement that Chrysler certainly isn't
          regretting.

Suh slots his go-to Peter Gabriel compact-disc into the
car's player.  When 'Your Eyes' hits, Suh lowers the
driver's side window a crack, breathing in the fresh air of
          downtown Detroit.

With his nose and ears tickled, Suh lets out a deep breath
through his nose and the smallest of smiles forms across his
          mouth.

                              SUH
Today is going to be a good day.

Suh looks ahead half-a-block down the road at the upcoming
stoplight- it turns from yellow to red.

          THE ENGINE ROARS TO LIFE-

          LATER

Suh, ON THE SIDEWALK, an ice pack on his head, being talked
          to by a POLICEMAN.

                              POLICEMAN
And that's the statement you wish
for me to record you making?

                              SUH
                    Yessir.

                              POLICEMAN
                    So your statement is the
                    seventy-eight year old, recently
                    widowed grandmother driving to her
                    granddaughter's wedding T-boned
                    you?

                              SUH
                    Yessir.

The Policeman looks over his shoulder at the CRASH SCENE:

Suh's car, upright, firmly planted to a rolled over,
          up-ended and just wrecked BUICK.

Not far away, two ATTENDANTS close a BODY BAG.

                              POLICEMAN
                    Sir, the cameras from the
                    stoplights show your vehicle
                    running the red light and-

                              SUH
I saw that tape.  I was just trying
to slow to a complete stop like any
good citizen would.  Go ahead and
                    make up whatever storylines you
wish, me and the man upstairs know
                    what's what.

AADP,Of course, this style of defense relies as much on our offense as defense to either A) continue to score or 😎 take lots of time off the clock. Eventually, most teams will simply run out of time to catch up. Of course, all this relies on our defense actually being able to get a few stops and us getting ahead by 10 or so.

I do agree with azrunning that the Lions scheme on O probably had a lot to do with the game plan. The execution deserves props, too, though. Best of all, we had 3 turnovers, with a legit shot at having 2 more. These guys are aggressive, but last night showed they need not force the issue. Playing disciplined can produce results, too. I sincerely hope some of the guys on D looked at it that way, at least.

Perhaps not the first half, but things changed in the second half. Give credit to our defense for making plays in the first half, though. My point was, the way Dom chooses to attack dramatically changes depending on the offensive production (or, one could also say defense scoring). This may seem incredibly obvious, but it's fun to watch him adjust his calls depending on situations. This is in stark contrast to certain times in the past (Bob Sanders) or several other defensive coordinators in the NFL who stick to their "way" and live and die with it. He could have chosen to blitz heavily in the late second half in an attempt to get more sacks on INTs to seal the game, but he choose to make them earn every inch and watch the clock drain. I imagine this was by far the best way to attack Stafford because he's prone to making mistakes . . . eventually. It's certainly no guarantee he can have several back to back 80+ yard drives against our defense without throwing a pick (obviously, since we had three). A QB like Brady or Brees on the other hand, I'm not so sure. The Packers might very well have to force a turnover or continue to score points on offense to outscore those two when they are in the "grove."

When guys are too focused on taking cheap shots, they lose focus on football. Suh is just a classic case of it, and he cost his team plenty due to his bullshit.

Of course, no discussion would be complete without Skip Bayless' take:

In other words, the Packers aren't actually playing all that great this year. They're just lucky. They're getting all the breaks because, y'know, the NFL wants them to have a magical year.

Zero2Cool (9-May) : Packers have claimed DE Spencer Waege off of waivers from the 49ers and waived DT Rodney Mathews.

dfosterf (1-May) : Not going to be shocked if Gilmore goes to the Lions.
dfosterf (1-May) : I hear you dhazer, but my guess would be Gilmore Colts and Howard Vikings from what little has been reported.
Mucky Tundra (30-Apr) : S learn from McKinney who learns from Hafley who learns from the fans. Guaranteed Super Bowl
