There's no doubt that pass rush should be the No. 1 priority, but you can't ignore the serious flaws this team has. They can't seal the edge opposite of Clay Matthews. Teams will simply just run the ball during short yardage situations and convert. They also have problems along the backend of their secondary. If Woodson is indeed staying at corner, then Morgan Burnett will have to play much better this season. As will his running mate.

Let's not forget the tackling. Sam Shields did not tackle well and neither did Tramon Williams. A.J. Hawk sucks, and frankly, only Desmond Bishop improved on the defensive side of the ball. Maybe Ryan Pickett, but I think he finally was getting rightful credit. Regardless, the tackling in '10 was very sound and the fundamentals were on track. They weren't this year.

It’s nice to narrow everything down to just one need, but I'll continue to disagree with the idea that football is simplified based on stats. In this case, we're simplifying a Super Bowl championship based on pressure. Yes, pressure is a very important aspect to the game. I'd rank it No. 2 behind the QB. However, it‘s not the only flaw in the Packers’ arsenal. Teach the players to tackle better and upgrade every level of the defense. That’s this off-season in a nutshell.

Lose tthe turnover battle, lose the game.
Especially when the ratio is -2 or more.
And.. when The offense gives up the ball inside their own 35 and inside their 5 yd line.

Hate to make it so simple, but it is what it is.

Missed tackles, dropped passes. Yes. Those were a big part of what went wrong last season. And yes, stats are oversimplifying. But I can't help it. I like playing with numbers. [grin1]

If we had a #1 need though, it would be a pass rush from up the middle. This would take some pressure off of CM3 and take some time off the QB's internal clock, and indirectly improve tackling as ball carriers won't be hitting their strides when Packers defenders are going for the tackle.

Now let's look at 2010 Playoff games.
We beat the Eagles 21-16 in the WC game. Bishop, CM3, and Erik Walden each record a sack.

2nd game - Falcons. CM3 gets two sacks, and BJ Raji, CJ Wilson, and Woody get one each.

CG - da Bears. Cullen Jenkins and CM3 share a sack while Sam Shields gets a whole sack.

SB - surprisingly the only of the 4 games where we lost the sack battle. Zombo got our only sack. However, we won the turnover battle. Jarrett Bush and Nick Collins each get a pick (Collins went for 7 points) while Bishop and T Williams each recover a fumble.

Fast forward one year. The Giants. Michael Boley and Osi Umenyiora get two sacks each. Brad Jones records our only sack. Eli Manning has enough time in the pocket to pick apart the secondary. We lose.

So yes, I agree with you all that we have more faults than just sacking the opposing QB. However, I'd say our #1 offseason priority is to get someone from up the middle who can get to the opposing QB and it's not even close when it comes to offseason priorities.

For the record, I’m not implying Green Bay needs to go on a spending spree. They can simply develop their younger talent. Morgan Burnett is an example. I guess my point is that for a 15-win team, Green Bay wasn't an all-time great team. They felt more like a 10 or 11-win team. I think their overall roster and performance reflects this.

Seriously though, for most games the turnover ratio will be -1, 0 or 1. You need to outplay the other team in other facets than turnovers in most games.

Let me simplify that ... the 6 turnovers that we we're missing are the 6 turnovers caused by Collins ... and if not more. Losing Burnett in 2010 didn't affect us because he was a rookie and Collins was extremely well. Peprah replacing Burnett is more effective then him replacing Collins. The day Collins went down, the defense went down. Collins not only help in the passing game but is a great asset in the running game as well. Let's hope he is 100% when he comes or else look for another mediocre performence by the defense this year ... unless we get a good safety and a good enough pass rush.

Hopefull Burnett is our next one, but what I know is that Charlie Peprah is nothing more than a solid backup. I read they are high on Anthony Levine, but expect a safety taken by round 4.

Let's do hope that Burnett explodes this year!!! He had a good decent season last year but it was his first complete season. This year he will finally get his experience in the tank & have a off season program to work with unlike last year.

That's not a knock on Cullen Jenkins, it's more of a credit to Nick Collins importance to the over all defense. If I'm not mistaken, he was considered the "QB" of the defense making sure people were lined up correctly. If not the defense, clearly he was "QB" of the secondary.

Martha Careful (2h) : I am not sure I understand the Myers hate. He was consistently our third best lineman. RG and LT were worse.
