Yeah, and Ted has so many cards in his hand that they are falling all over the table...

Also noted at KFFL the Bears have been looking extensively at McClellin. Hmm.

I could see where players x and y are rated similar. A team already likes player x better and has decided to draft/rate him higher. So they bring in player y for an extensive workout to solidify their choice and at the same time making everbody think they're going after player y. But on D day they're hoping for player x.

Does it happen? I'm like the dog in the Far Side cartoon, where he drew arrows on the floor to the dryer in the laundry room, with "Cat Fud" written on the dryer door, hiding behind the wall going, "Ohhh, Please...Pleeeeease!"

Did an interesting little exercise just now, for kicks: looked up the other pass rushers that were chosen after our Sherrod pick in 2011, just to see what we missed out on. Man, going back to the end of R3, there was ONE player that really did well, Jabaal Sheard, chosen 5 picks after Sherrod by CLE in R2 (#37). He had 8.5 sacks last year. Most of the rest were lucky to get 1 or 2 sacks, or to get onto the field.

Out of 13 DL chosen that year in R2 and R3, only 1 had more than 2.5 sacks (Sheard's 8.5).

Aldon Smith, the first DL chosen #7 overall by SF in R1 had more than both the top two DL R2-3 put together (11) with 14.5. In looking further down the line in R1 from 2011, out of the 10 DL selected before Sherrod, there were a handful of guys that had 5 sacks after Smith, something like 3 or 4 players.

I guess that is part of my reasoning for wanting to land two of these big dudes in R1 this year, by trading up. The further down you go, those pickings can get really slim. And we need that big impact DL help this year. I'm hoping for the best.

Oh, please,
Oh please....

This week I looked back on some ofthe past drafts also. I didn't put any numbers together but it looked to me when you get some around the mid first round or later you have to be pretty lucky to get an immediate impact player. And drafting above that is certainly no sure thing. Most players need a year or two to develop, like Mario Williams. So not only do we need to draft well, we need a little luck. That's why I'd like to see a DL and OLB, to improve our chances.

Yeah, that little exercise shows we should be pretty happy if we can add some DL help that would give us +5 sacks next year. Anything more is gravy. Like you said, hopefully we can add a couple of those pass rushers with solid picks at DE and OLB.

If you were to trade up, who do you like? Me, I'd go for Mercillus, Brockers, Ingram or Coples, maybe Upshaw.

Something tells me Ted is going to be bold, and give us 3 in the top 60. I would not be surprised if the last of those 3 picks is used on Iloka.

Well they certainly were in position, and did trade up 3 times in the draft. All for current-year picks as expected though, Jones and Finley still on the roster and will likely remain there for the season.

So play2win, how do you feel about the draft? From this thread it would seem like they went out and got exactly what you wanted, 2 DL and 1 impact OLB. You were just about right in that Ted got 3 picks in the top 60; 28, 51 and 62.

Martha Careful (10-May) : 1. this is true of all our linemen. 2. His run block is fine. 3. If all OL played like he has, we would win SB.
beast (10-May) : Meyers pass blocking is really good, his run blocking is really not.
Zero2Cool (9-May) : Packers have claimed DE Spencer Waege off of waivers from the 49ers and waived DT Rodney Mathews.

Martha Careful (9-May) : I am not sure I understand the Myers hate. He was consistently our third best lineman. RG and LT were worse.
beast (9-May) : Just saying I don't think moving Myers would help Myers.

dhazer (29-Apr) : And what about grabbing a Gilmore or Howard at CB ? Those are all Free Agents left
