Kampman was also SLOW compared to Perry. This dude is FAST, and I like it. But as I said in another post, I have a strong feeling he will be groomed to be the primary pass rusher for the Packers with CM3 being a "swing" guy (since he is really good at both pass rushing and coverage). I thought that this is exactly what the Packers needed anyway. I think we have it and I'm excited.

Also, let the guy put his hand on the ground some. I suppose it strongly suggests that he is rushing most of the time, but so what. I'd like to see more hybrid defense between the 3-4 and the 4-3.

We shouldn't forget the FA signing of Anthony Hargrove. He should be a plus rusher there as well.

Looks like the dynamics of this defense have changed drastically, and Capers will have way more options to switch it up, ala 2010... I can't wait to see it.

Adding dynamic speed and power off the edge in Perry, and a relentless force at DE in Worthy was essential. I hope they both pan out, and have stellar careers in GB.

Ted Thompson realizes there is risk involved. And to be sure, there's a lot of it.

A transition awaits. The Green Bay Packers will ask a defensive end to play outside linebacker. Nick Perry has said he'd rather be an end. This could have been a red flag, a caution, a clear sign to look elsewhere.

The Packer general manager easily could have opted for the more productive college player in Alabama's Courtney Upshaw or the ultrasafe choice in center Peter Konz.

Instead, Thompson pushed his chips in. He took a calculated gamble. Maybe Nick Perry is the next Jamal Reynolds. But maybe he's special, a difference-maker.

Thompson needed to find a pass rusher this off-season to improve the league's 32nd-ranked defense this season. Not in 2013. This season. So he took a chance.

I think Perry is gonna be AWESOME. And I think he's gonna be able to cover just fine. Might take a season to get there, but he will do it.

He's done it before. He does things the right way, according to scouting reports, as far as knee bend and technique. It's just not something he did often. I really don't think it's much of a risk.

I thought one of the reasons most were saying Aaron Kampman couldn't make it at OLB was because he was too big? I might be mis-remembering.

6'4" 260lbs Aaron Kampman
6'3" 255lbs Clay Matthews III
6'3" 271lbs Nick Perry
6'2" 305lbs Cullen Jenkins (cuz I was curious)

Nick Perry said “I have the raw skills and the mind to do it. I think I have a lot to bring to the table. There’s a lot of potential that needs to be taken out of me. I’m going to Green Bay, to a great tradition that’s going to help me improve my game and become a better player for years to come.”

Zero, there was a time when Aaron weighed close to 290. He never had the athleticism necessary for the 3-4 OLB position. He was always just a 4-3 DE, and unfortunately he was one of the guys that was a square peg when we made the switch because he was too light to be a 3-4 DE.

I don't see the problem with Perry that others do. He is more athletic than either Woodley or Harrison for Pittsburgh. Let's face it, Matthews is in his own stratosphere as to what he can do on a football field, so we should all quit thinking we are going to have an equal compliment on the other side from Clay.

What Perry should be allowed to do, is on obvious passing downs - stick his hand in the dirt and go for the quarterback and ever so often drop into coverage to keep everybody honest.

I do agree though that he should cut some weight back to 260, but to say he will be the biggest disappointment may be a reach until we see a few games. I am very excited about the first 5 drafted. They all have a legitimate shot at playing time this year.

As for Nick Perry being biggest disappointment, if referring to my comment, I said biggest of the first three picks, not overall draft. I think the two 2nd rounders are going to outshine him. Thing is, if Nick Perry isn't the next Clay Matthews III, fans will whine. If Jerel Worthy isn't the next Cullen Jenkins, some fans will whine. If Casey Hayward isn't the next Charles Woodson, fans will whine.

If Hayward is even close to Woodson we will have been extrememly lucky. Woodson is a very special athlete. Unless you're talking the present day Woodson, because he has slowed down considerably. Hayward will have every opportunity to play a lot just like Shields his rookie year. I hope he is up to it. I believe Perry will be fine. I think he is as good as any LB in this draft. I can understand him wanting to play the position he is familar with, but once he has some success at OLB he'll be more motivated. He also has a good position coach. All we really need him to do successfully this year is rush the passer, anymore is a bonus the way I look at it. With experience he'll become more complete. Worthy will be fime also. He won't be as good as Jenkins immediately but he should be a definite upgrade. In the long run I think he can be better than Jenkins. With where we drafted him we were pretty lucky. McMillian has as good an opportunity as anyone to start/contribute. It would really be great if he could upgrade that positon. Ted Thompson seems to really like him so I'm hoping he can pull that off. I'm really looking forward to seeing these guys play. When you think about it, it's amazing the opportunity these young players have on a team that just won the second last SB and was 15-1 last year.
Why is Jerry Kramer not in the Hall of Fame?

Martha Careful (10-May) : 1. this is true of all our linemen. 2. His run block is fine. 3. If all OL played like he has, we would win SB.
beast (10-May) : Meyers pass blocking is really good, his run blocking is really not.
Zero2Cool (9-May) : Packers have claimed DE Spencer Waege off of waivers from the 49ers and waived DT Rodney Mathews.
Zero2Cool (9-May) : And the OL protections seem to be good.
Zero2Cool (9-May) : I really don't know lol. I don't see him getting blown up.
Zero2Cool (9-May) : -3 buwahhhahaaha
Mucky Tundra (9-May) : 4th
Zero2Cool (9-May) : because he's 1st
Mucky Tundra (9-May) : Myers isn't even the 3rd best C on the roster atm
Martha Careful (9-May) : I am not sure I understand the Myers hate. He was consistently our third best lineman. RG and LT were worse.
beast (9-May) : Just saying I don't think moving Myers would help Myers.
beast (9-May) : Center is usually considered the easiest position physically if you can handle the snap stuff.
Mucky Tundra (8-May) : Bust it is then
Zero2Cool (8-May) : Context. Sounds like Myers won't be cross-trained. C or bust.
Mucky Tundra (8-May) : @BookOfEli_NFL Packers pass game coordinator, Jason Vrable said that Jayden Reed and Dontayvion Wicks shared a placed in Florida while train
Mucky Tundra (8-May) : For now...
Zero2Cool (8-May) : Packers go about evaluating their "best five," OL coach Luke Butkus makes on thing clear: "Josh Myers is our center."
beast (8-May) : Though I'm a bit surprised letting go of CBs, I thought we needed more not less
beast (8-May) : It was confusing with two DB Anthony Johnson anyways
Zero2Cool (8-May) : Packers actually had Ray Lewis on the phone.
Zero2Cool (8-May) : Packers wanted to draft Ray Lewis. Ravens stole him.
Martha Careful (6-May) : Happy 93rd Birthday to the Greatest Baseball Player of All-Time...Willie Mays
Zero2Cool (6-May) : Walter Stanely's son
buckeyepackfan (6-May) : and released CB Anthony Johnson and DL Deandre Johnson and waived/injured WR Thyrick Pitts (thigh-rick).
buckeyepackfan (6-May) : The Green Bay Packers have signed WR Julian Hicks, OL Lecitus Smith (luh-SEET-us) and WR Dimitri Stanley
Zero2Cool (6-May) : Petty, but it's annoying me how the NFL is making the schedule release an event.
Mucky Tundra (4-May) : @mattschneidman Matt LaFleur on how he tore his pec: “Got in a fight with the bench press. I lost.”
Zero2Cool (3-May) : Jordan Love CAN sign an extension as of today. Might tak weeks/months though
TheKanataThrilla (3-May) : Packers decline 5th year option for Stokes
Mucky Tundra (3-May) : @ProFootballTalk Jaylen Warren: Steelers' special teams coach has discussed Justin Fields returning kicks.
Zero2Cool (2-May) : Season officially ending tonight for Bucks ... sad face
Zero2Cool (2-May) : Giannis Antetokounmpo is listed as out for tonight's game.
dfosterf (2-May) : Surprisingly low initially is my guess cap wise, but gonna pay the piper after that
dfosterf (2-May) : The number on Love is going to be brutal.
Zero2Cool (2-May) : May 3rd. Extension day for Jordan Love. (soonest)
Zero2Cool (1-May) : USFL MVP QB Alex McGough moved to WR. So that's why no WR drafted!
earthquake (1-May) : Packers draft starters at safety ever few years. Collins, Clinton-Dix, Savage
beast (1-May) : Why can't the rookies be a day 1 starter? Especially when we grabbed 3 of them at the position
dfosterf (1-May) : Not going to be shocked if Gilmore goes to the Lions.
dfosterf (1-May) : I hear you dhazer, but my guess would be Gilmore Colts and Howard Vikings from what little has been reported.
Mucky Tundra (30-Apr) : S learn from McKinney who learns from Hafley who learns from the fans. Guaranteed Super Bowl
Zero2Cool (30-Apr) : could*
Zero2Cool (29-Apr) : Safeties should learn from Xavier.
dhazer (29-Apr) : And what about grabbing a Gilmore or Howard at CB ? Those are all Free Agents left
dhazer (29-Apr) : out of curiosity do they try and sign Simmons or Hyde to let these young safeties learn from, they can't be day 1 starters.
Zero2Cool (29-Apr) : I miss having Sam Shields.
Zero2Cool (29-Apr) : Not that he's making excuses, just pointing it out
Zero2Cool (29-Apr) : That's for dang sure. Make our erratic kicker have no excuse!
packerfanoutwest (28-Apr) : having a great long snapper is gold
Zero2Cool (28-Apr) : LaFleur looking like he had some weight. Coachin will do that lol
