Three of those turnovers were recovered in our own territory, two of which weren't in good field position by any means (own 21 and own 3). The other was on our 49 but the offense still had to drive. It was basically the same thing as if the defense had stopped them on those drives and they'd had to punt and if that had been the case the stats would only show 1 turnover and we wouldn't be "eking" out three touchdowns. We also had points essentially taken off the board by two separate phantom calls (the holding on Moll and the pass interference on Driver). Don't get me wrong, the offense was far from perfect and certainly was found wanting when it came down to third down conversions, but they were far from anemic.

All valid points, mi_keys.

A similar line of reasoning was why I questioned our coaching staff's decision not to go for the touchdown on 4th-and-goal from the 1 in the Panther game. Had we failed to convert, the worst that would have happened is we would have given Carolina the ball back inside the 5 -- better than a punt, and far better than giving it back to them on the 45, which is what our lousy return coverage units had been doing all day.

Then, had the Panthers tossed the long bomb, it would have landed them around midfield, rather than the goal line.

I don't understand why coaches so often fail to see that added value in aggressive goal-line plays. The potential advantages far outweigh the possible risks.

You do realize against the texans we put the ball on their 2 yard line with around the same time left. And the defense failed to hold them. What makes you think they could of held the panthers?

Nothing. I'd just rather give the defense 95+ yards to work with rather than 55 yards.

I don't usually complain about the refs. In the past, I have made an effort to be unbiased and forgiving. This year, the refs have been terrible to the point of conspiracy. I have seem some outrageous things called against us, and not called for us. It is beyond the explanation of random error.

I didn't see the Houston game, but I was beyond pissed during New Orleans. Two things that come to mind are the PI call on Woodson when the ball was about 10 yards past the receiver, and the PI call on Tramon Williams when the ball was still in the QB's hands. Those are simply unexplainable, and I've seen at least a dozen equally outrageous examples.
