One of the surest ways to make an NFL roster is to get drafted by Green Bay Packers general manager Ted Thompson...

Here is a look at each player from the Packers’ rookie draft class and where they stand three weeks into training camp:

one of the more interesting lines:

JOSH BOYD, defensive end (Round 5)

Analysis: He’s big (310 pounds) and athletic, but he faces stiff competition for a roster spot. Maybe he sticks if the Packers keep an extra lineman. It’s possible the final spot will come down to Boyd or Johnny Jolly, which should make for an intriguing battle the rest of camp.

This just might be the year the Jarrett "nine lives" Bush gets cut. If Boyd is this good, I don't understand how you let an athletic big like Jolly go to have a gunner specialist. We usually keep 6 dlineman. Pickett, Raji, Jones, Wilson, Daniels, Jolly, and Boyd! Would it be a crime to keep 7. I think I'd let Wilson go before Jolly. Neal is going to be moved to OLB.

As for the grade outs in the article, seems spot on. We could be witnessing one of Ted's best draft classes this year. I'm VERY impressed with many of those selections.

I think our run defense will be better this year. I have yet to say they have a good run defense because it's preseason. But, I think they held the Cardinals really really well. We had a lot of 3rd downs. If we can clean up the pass defense, we can have a top 10 defense.

Can we be top 5 in both? What will THAT scenery look like?

I think Mike Vandermause made some errors in this article.

Of the 15 that didn’t make it as rookies, some landed on the practice squad (Brian Brohm, Brett Swain, Andrew Datko, B.J. Coleman, Lawrence Guy, Craig Bragg, Clark Harris), others were picked up by other teams (Dave Tollefson, David Clowney, Jamon Meredith), and one fought his way back to become a Packers’ starter (Marshall Newhouse).

Vandermause wrote:

When was Newhouse cut? ... he looked HORRIBLE in his rookie training camp but if memory serves me correctly he also improved a lot and the Packers kept him on the 53 man roster his whole career.

Also Brohm wa cut as a rookie? Packers cut a 2nd round rookie? I'm having trouble beileving that, I tried to look it up and looks like they cut him his second year, not as a rookie.

Also again I missed the Cards pre season game, but Barrington was on some of the starting ST units at Family night. That was a huge surprise because normally they don't put guys on the starting ST units until it looks like they have a very good shot at making the roster. And he looked very good at family night, so I was thinking he had a pretty good chance of making the final roster.

I'll be surprised and disappointed if our D isn't better than last year. The addition of Jones and Perry, if they're as good as advertised, has to make them better. Plus the young DBs have another year of experience.
Why is Jerry Kramer not in the Hall of Fame?

So I'm thinking they're going to keep 7 DL with Neal counting as one of them. Which would mean one of those other 7 might be gone. But which one?

Risk cutting Boyd and trying to get him to the PS?

Cut Jolly and go younger?

Cut Wilson and go with Jolly instead?

I know people don't like Wilson as much, but I think the coaches really like him as a run stopper and he's younger. IF (and it's an IF I don't know) IF Boyd is showing good potential, I don't think the coaches are going to let him go. WHich makes me think Jolly is bubble of being possibly cut.

Hate repeating myself, as I said to Zero, there used to be 4 or 5 guys who would join JB, now it seems only Jonathan Franklin has joined him.

Wonder if there would be fewer injuries and how much better these young guys would be if they would take Bush's lead?

"Nine Lives" as you call him isn't lucky, there's a reason he is still a Packer after 7 years.

Wonder if you can figure it out.

I'm betting NO!!

Zero2Cool (4h) : Sources spoke of many, many times last summer where Hackett called a play, then Rodgers changed it completely at the line
Martha Careful (10-May) : 1. this is true of all our linemen. 2. His run block is fine. 3. If all OL played like he has, we would win SB.
beast (10-May) : Meyers pass blocking is really good, his run blocking is really not.
Zero2Cool (9-May) : Packers have claimed DE Spencer Waege off of waivers from the 49ers and waived DT Rodney Mathews.
Zero2Cool (9-May) : And the OL protections seem to be good.
Zero2Cool (9-May) : I really don't know lol. I don't see him getting blown up.

Mucky Tundra (9-May) : 4th
Zero2Cool (9-May) : because he's 1st
Mucky Tundra (9-May) : Myers isn't even the 3rd best C on the roster atm
Martha Careful (9-May) : I am not sure I understand the Myers hate. He was consistently our third best lineman. RG and LT were worse.
beast (9-May) : Just saying I don't think moving Myers would help Myers.
beast (9-May) : Center is usually considered the easiest position physically if you can handle the snap stuff.
Mucky Tundra (8-May) : Bust it is then
Zero2Cool (8-May) : Context. Sounds like Myers won't be cross-trained. C or bust.

dfosterf (2-May) : Surprisingly low initially is my guess cap wise, but gonna pay the piper after that
dfosterf (2-May) : The number on Love is going to be brutal.
Zero2Cool (2-May) : May 3rd. Extension day for Jordan Love. (soonest)
Zero2Cool (1-May) : USFL MVP QB Alex McGough moved to WR. So that's why no WR drafted!
earthquake (1-May) : Packers draft starters at safety ever few years. Collins, Clinton-Dix, Savage
beast (1-May) : Why can't the rookies be a day 1 starter? Especially when we grabbed 3 of them at the position
dfosterf (1-May) : Not going to be shocked if Gilmore goes to the Lions.
dfosterf (1-May) : I hear you dhazer, but my guess would be Gilmore Colts and Howard Vikings from what little has been reported.
Mucky Tundra (30-Apr) : S learn from McKinney who learns from Hafley who learns from the fans. Guaranteed Super Bowl
Zero2Cool (30-Apr) : could*
Zero2Cool (29-Apr) : Safeties should learn from Xavier.
dhazer (29-Apr) : And what about grabbing a Gilmore or Howard at CB ? Those are all Free Agents left
dhazer (29-Apr) : out of curiosity do they try and sign Simmons or Hyde to let these young safeties learn from, they can't be day 1 starters.
Zero2Cool (29-Apr) : I miss having Sam Shields.
