I will admit that I was not in favor of not having a veteran back up at the start of the season, and I'll admit that I did not think that Rodgers would be 3rd in the league in passing yards at the end of the regular season. That's VERY impressive and I give 100% props to Aaron! That shows all of the hard work and dedication he put into this season and also the preparation he put in while sitting behind Brett for 3 seasons, great job Aaron and keep up the great work!!!!

Aaron had a great year for a 1st year player, but I can't help feel a bit disappointed.

If I told you way back in TC that Aaron would throw for 4,000 yards, have 28 TDs, like 13 INTs, and complete 63% of his passes, everyone would've been expecting the Packers to get into the playoffs comfortably.

Phil Simms made this point during a game today, that it's so unusual to see a QB have a good season and his team struggle. Yet that happened. Very ... underwhelming to an extent?


Anyways, I'll most remember Aaron for his performance in the 2nd half of the Panthers game. I think at that time we saw the birth of a bona-fide play maker, and a great leader. Aaron basically carried us back into the game and gave us a shot at winning.

At least for me, that half Aaron made me believe he'd be someone more than capable of getting this team a comeback win. I sincerely believe it is a matter of 'when' and not 'if' Aaron can lead us to a comeback victory.

the game versus carolina did show me that aaron could lead his team back after being down the whole game and without much momentum. He is a leader and true playmaker

I actually didn't want Thompson to bring in a veteran backup. I didn't want to see Rodgers looking over his shoulder every time he had a bad play. I didn't want to hear the fans chant for the backup every time things didn't go well. Having the two rookies in reserve has worked out awesome for Rodgers, giving him a chance to mature into a seasoned starter and to showcase the depth of his talent.

Although there was a bit of a gamble with the worries of injury, and considering that this IS a tough game and people do get injured (particularly if the O line is sucking), I thought going with 2 rookies at backup was a good call for the reasons you mentioned above. If you are going young, just do it. I am really glad that there was no reason to have the rookies play this year, and I hope they have the chance to mature as Rodgers did.

He was really good. One of the few bright spots of the year.

The Packers lost 5 straight. None of the other teams on the list did. Granted while Cassell, Brees, and Cutler didn't make the playoffs, you can't say their teams struggled. Sure Dallas was bad down the stretch, but you could visibly see Romo was injured, and so was one of their biggest weapons in Witten.

Basically even those three QBs who played good gave their teams a chance to get into the playoffs. Which you'd expect, because good QBing is a vital part of NFL success.

While Garrard had over 3500 yards, I don't think you could say he had a good season. He was almost even in TDs and INTS (15-13) and not very efficient.

As for Favre, I don't think this season qualifies as one of his "good seasons" in light of his struggles the past month. Favre is a big play guy, who will throw INTs while going out their and throwing more TDs. That didn't happen this year. Also, despite that the Jets weren't a "horrible team" as they were still in the playoff picture until about 2 minutes left to go vs the Dolphins (when the Ravens won).

It's so unusual to see a QB be so near the top in so many stats like Rodgers, yet be a part of a sub-par team, a 6-10 team for example.

I won't deny you have a valid point. I would raise Brees as a counterexample, but he did toss 17 INTs this year, second in the league. Of course, he balanced that with 34 TDs for a decent 2:1 ratio. (By comparison, Rodgers TD:INT ratio was 28:13, or approximately 2.15.)
