For those who think Mario emerged this year... they're wrong. Mario had more sacks last year than he had this year (14.0 > 12.0).

He had a good first year too, but that was without Amobi Okoye helping in the middle.

Mario had 4.5 sacks his first year. And to date, Amobi Okoye has provided zero help on the inside of that D-line.

Rookie DEs rarely contribute much in their first season.

Too much reliance on stats. If you wanted to actually have a valid comparison of Williams this year vs last year, look at the pressures, for starters.

Williams is a very dominating player, one teams have to game plan for specifically now. That wasn't the case in his first year.

I totally agree that Mario was a bigger factor this year than last year. But having 14 sacks the previous season and people believing he emerged this year is just plain wrong. But I think my whole point becomes moot when I don't see a Mario Williams in this year's draft class, with this being in the draft sub-forum and all.

I said that ppl want a guy who would make an instant impact with sacks this year, but nobody has done that the past few seasons.

So the expectations are a little too high.

Mark Anderson had 12 as a rookie for the Bears in 06.

This draft has the potential to have some of the best pure pass rushers we've seen in quite a while in one single draft. I think top to bottom the talent is there. It's all about getting the right guy obviously.

Greg Hardy is another name to throw into the ring if he were to declare. He's a bit rough around the edges (but all the DEs in this draft are), but he carries a second round grade at this point, so he'd likely be better value than Johnson. Then we could add a LT at 9, which is more likely to give us immediate returns than a DE.

Look at all the movement of draft prospects. I say it's even more pronounced this year comparative to recent history. Also, take a good, hard look at the Eagles selections in the first round. I remain convinced that we could get two high quality individuals with our #9 pick, if we are able to find a willing trade partner. The "chart value" would be our 9 and our 5th round pick for both of the Eagles 1st round picks. If you are thinking solely defensive linemen (as most seem to be)... you might not like this scenario. If, however, you are thinking BOTH sides of the line of scrimmage, as I happen to be, this is an outstanding opportunity to really make an impact with that first pick.

Just to throw this out there, instead of offering the fifth round pick the Packers could offer to switch spots with the Eagles in the fourth round, or third at the most.

I'd love to see the Packers get two first rounders, but I'm not sure there is any player the Eagles would absolutely love falling to #9.

Switching spots with the Eagles in the 4th would be nice, better than my idea, but we would be scammin' the Iggles, so I imagine that would hinge on who approached who, etc. I love this draft through the 3rd round, and would prefer that our two 3rd rounders stay just as they are. As to if the Eagles would be willing to do this, I would suspect that the Eagles and the Packers have absolutely no clue at this point in time, nor will they right up until the Pack is on the clock. I really think that there will be so many surprises in that 1st round that just about anything is possible, with just about all the teams. I'm pretty sure that our 10 minutes will be fascinating.

I think we should stay at our position in the draft and simply select the 2009 rookie defensive player of the year.
