Defense definitely made a win feel like a loss. I think Capers should have blitzed Ryan earlier and more often. You take you chances with Julio but he was beating them anyway so you might as well get some hits on Ryan.

Anyway, it has been awhile since an elite receiver has done it to this defense. Hopefully it was an aberration.

So I guess it could be considered an aberration, but the pitiful performance of the defense since the Packers won the Super Bowl is certainly no aberration.
The aberration would be the defensive performance against the Eagles and Pats.

The total collapse by our front 4 was pathetic last night. The front 4 had exactly 0 pressure on Ryan the entire game. The talking heads were quick to point out how much time Aaron had to pick apart the Falcons D but I can assure you Ryan was looking mighty comfortable in the pocket also.

Remember those comments I said about the Packers Defense vs average to good QB's? Exactly, this isn't something new. This isn't something that was exposed. This is just something that nearly bit the Packers in the Green and Gold asscheeks.

If it wasn't for Aaron 'mother freakin' Rodgers, Dom Capers would have been canned seasons ago. Same with James Campen but I won't steal Shawn's ranting thunder on that.

If the Seahawks had the Packers offense, they wouldn't need the defense to hold the entire game. When you only score 19, you better hold the other team.

Last night the defense changed in the 2nd half and was sitting in softer zones, and doing less scheming to get after Ryan. Had the game been close that wouldn't have been the case.

The offense put up 43 points and the outcome was still up in the air until after the 2:00 warning. I can't think of a positive way to spin that.

Ok. Now I understand. In a game in which the Packers had a huge lead, Capers should have done everything possible to keep the Falcons from scoring any points. Even if it meant putting wrinkles on tape that were just installed this week. He should have used every trick available. Keep nothing in reserve. Because it is more important to cream the Falcons than it is to potentially surprise a playoff opponent.

Packers only gave up 91 rushing yards. The was the main complaint a couple weeks ago. Anybody happy about that? 3.8 ypc!

Remember how we were undefeated in '11? The Chiefs figured us out, and put it on film for everyone.

This D was shitting itself consistently until after the bye. Clay moved inside, some other changes were made, and they were looking decent. Not great, but decent. Now that's over.

Im not trying to be mean here but u really gotta know what kind of D we were playing in the 2nd half to understand why ATL came back. We played soft zone coverage D. A competent QB like Ryan and a great WR like Julio can expose that real quick and they did. We sacrifice yards and some scoring for time off the clock to win. This defense is not as bad as some of u are saying. U really gotta understand the type of coverage they were playing..

1st half - aggressive man coverage with little zone coverage

2nd half - soft zone coverage mixed with prevent D

The Pack also gave up 30 points and made a 24 point game a close one in one half. As myself and others have said, it's not like last night was the first time we saw this D gashed for yards and points. Kapernick, Boldon, Julio, A. Peterson, 32nd ranked rush defense at one point this year. Attribute last night to a soft defense, fine, but then what can we attribute other concerning defensive performances to?

They played almost the entire 4th qtr with Brad Jones as the sole MLBer. We didn't try to do anything fancy.

Though Dom did make a nice move of putting House on Jones on the outside, of our CB he is the best option for being able to go up and play the ball in the air against taller WR.

Something didn't seem right about Shields either. I don't think he was fully back from the concussion, or else the amount of running and bouncing around during the game took a toll on him and aggravated his condition.
The world needs ditch diggers too Danny!!!

Musccy,

This is not the best Defense in the league. It is the #18 scoring defense. It is the Defense of a team that has gone 9-1 in their last 10 games. It is the same D that held the Patriots below their, at the time, league leading scoring offense just last week. It is what it is. Average, but supplemented by a tremendous offense.

But before we discuss any more of it's flaws, lets discuss the perfect teams in the league. Let's start with, um, well, the Patriots? Wait, we just beat them. So the, uh, Seahawks. Wait, they've lost more games than the Pack and have no receiving threat. Well, crud. Is there no perfect team?

This has the making of a special season. One that might end in not making the playoffs. Or maybe a first rd exit. Or possibly even a Super Bowl title. Does everyone really want to spend the season complaining about things we don't understand or control? Life is short. Enjoy the trip. Don't focus on the potholes.
