Over the last 48 Super Bowls there have been 50 MVP's. The award was twice shared in 1997 and 2003. During this time span only ten times has the team of the NFL MVP won the Super Bowl.

The last time the MVP winner's team won the Super Bowl was the '99 Rams and the '98 Broncos.

That being said, the Packers have done it two out of those ten times. Bart Starr during the 1966 season and Brett Favre during the 1996 season.

Sounds like it is time for Rodgers to uphold another Packer QB tradition of winning both the SB and MVP.

So the best player isn't always on the best team. That's not a surprise.

Why wouldn't I want Rodgers to win MVP if roughly 1 in 5 MVPs have gone on to win the Super Bowl (or rather their team has)? 1 in 5 is pretty damn good odds when you consider a completely randomized chance of winning the Super Bowl is 1 in 32.

It's not a political vote or a popularity contest.

If Aaron really is the most valuable player to his team, he should win it. And if we can beat the best of the best, we deserve to win that too.

Looks like six of the ten were all within about a ten year period. I have to take my mittens off to count to make sure.

Yes I do. They are not mutually exclusive.

I don't think we have to worry about it, as I see it as a 2 man race. JJ Watt and Tom Brady are the front runners in my mind. Can someone name more than a wr from the Pats that would start on the Packers? I think the true MVP is going to be Watt I mean C'mon he gets sacks, blocks kicks, has interceptions and now he is catching touchdown passes lol.

Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be 🙂 (PS, Zero should charge for this)

I would love to see Watt get it. Hopefully them letting him play offense will be enough to give a defensive player the award.

How can a player for a potentially losing or 500 team be more valuable than the best quarterback in the league of a contending team? Would the Packers or Texans be better with Aaron Rodgers or JJ Watt? The answer is simple to me. Aaron Rodgers is much more valuable. Or how about Andrew Luck, Tom Brady, or Peyton Manning. Would the Colts, Patriots, or Broncos be better without their QB but with JJ Watt? Not with today's NFL rules, unfortunately.
