Why does this rule even exist? As long as each team is only supplying their own balls, why not let them inflate or deflate them how ever much they like. No team would have an advantage or disadvantage so the playing field would be level.

Since the balls are all inspected prior to the game, unless they have video of a team member changing the balls between the inspection and the game, it is going to be pretty hard to show that anything was intentionally done by the Pats.

Unless there is a player safety issue that I can figure out, this rule should be removed. If a team wants to use a completely flat ball why not let them. They would only be impacting their own performance.

I'm a "Packeroholic", does that count?
Anyway....they have rules for a reason. If someone does ANYTHING against the rules to try to gain an edge, it's cheating, period. The penalty should be huge, or there will be no reason for them to stop.
Take away draft picks? So what. One SB trophy is worth more then that.
A monetary fine? Big deal. The money they make winning a SB will make them more money the the fine will cost them.
What was it, 11 of 12 footballs that were way under inflated? Belicheats explanation that it was the rubbing of the footballs that caused it? Oh....11 it affects, but one oddball ball it didn't? Who believes that bull?
Again, the rule is in place for a reason. How about taking away their AFC title, and give it to the Colts? That would get their attention.(I know the TOOTHLESS NFL would never do that)

Unless there is proof that the pats removed more air after the balls were inspected, they didn't do anything wrong.

I can see them putting tamper seals on the footballs when inspected like they do with urine samples.

If it's true? Yes.
Otherwise get rid of the rule, or enforce it.

Why do they even need more than one ball anyway? I see the value in having some backups just in case of weather conditions or a player tosses it into the end zone or wants to keep it for some reason. Other than that, why not just play with one ball?
