When healthy both are solid, but that's kind of the issue. If you're expecting a 3-4 DE to wrack up sacks like Reggie White, you're looking at the wrong defense. In the 3-4 we run, these are mostly run stoppers who help the push to allow the LB to get those kinds of stats.

Not that I don't think we can upgrade, but if we go into the year with Neal, Raji and Jones up front then Perry, Peppers, Matthews and Barrington at LB I can live with that/

Pretty close to labeling both guys busts.

Heres to hoping they explode this season.

Think about it, however. Datone Jones was and would be again an ideal 4-3 DE.

So I'm wondering if you know if Datone has ever played in a 4-3 defense or not...

Lou Spanos was the UCLA defensive coordinator when Jones was there and he was with the Steelers after Capers and both use some of the same terms which has been talked about in a couple articles. Jones didn't have to learn new terms and already understand the 3-4 idea as he had already been running something very similar to it in college.

Arguably, you could say the same for Nick Perry; Mike Neal too.

Though of course Kampman 4-3 DE was most successful, but in fairness Neal was in 3-4 DE, not 4-3 DE.

From this fan's perspective, sometimes at Lambeau and sometimes at home, I haven't been even minimally impressed with either Perry or Jones.
Both show flashes at times but for the most part both are mostly invisible.
I think this year is put out or get out for both.
Both are approaching bust status in my book.
