GB pays millions for coaches and infrastructure. They need 1 more coach on the sideline: A Rule expert for what, 50K...100K?.

Seattle once again wins one Monday because Refs suck. Let's hear Carroll B!tch about that missed call, oh wait, Pete maybe you only b!tch about wrong calls that hurt you. Pretty sociopathic, don't ya think?

What if Detroit had an expert who knew that batted ball was illegal, they radio that into Stafford or if mike was off, run a player out there to "remind" the refs that an intentionally batted ball out of end zone is not a touchback.

What if GB had an expert to tell McCarthy what the focus of the challenge should be, so he can communicate that to the refs? Of course usually that is self-evident; but sometimes it's not. The expert could have reminded MM, who reminds the refs, EG, on that Bryant non-catch in 2014 POs that Bryant wasn't taking "steps," but was in the process of falling to the ground and his feet just happened to touch the ground in front of each other forward of where he caught the ball. Or that the Sweezy late hit in champ game was after the whistle and the down should have counted. Or like that time in 2013 v. SF where SF got an extra down against us because the Refs didn't know the rules.

I got 2 things to say to the Ref who said, he saw the hit and knew the rule, but it was not an intentional hit OOB:
1. "Your mike's on;" and
2 you are a self admitted incompetent and a LIAR and must be removed from the game.

Or maybe like the Patriots, the Seahawks have some hidden juice somewhere.

How about the NFL hiring some refs that know the rules?
Why didn't someone from the New York office buzz the field and tell the refs to call the penalty?
Just another "mistake" by the NFL.
Goodell once again looks like a fool.
Who should get fined for this screw up?

Had he just caught it (which he easily could have done) or not touched it, it wouldn't be lions ball. The Lions getting the ball back would have been a gift due to technicalities, it's not as if they were close to regaining possession.

Officials make mistakes. Fail Mary was my Facebook profile pic for a while...I get hating the Seahawks, but I think we're overreacting to this.

However, I agree that the league should hire refs who know the fricking rules, and I would add, that are not intimidated by a loud crowd.

Now hold on. The calls have gone both ways for the Packers. Officials try to do the best they can. Many a time I've had to say wait until I see the replay before I know if it was a good play or not. Real time with 22 fast players and the ball is a very tough job. Each play looks very different from different angles. The last thing we need are MORE RULES!!

I think the core of the problem is that the rules are too much open to interpretation by the officials. The rules should be more rigid. Let me give you an example of grasping the facemask. It used to be a 5 yard version or a 15 yard version depending on how the official saw it. Now it is 15 yards always. No interpretation needed by the official.

Less interpretation would make things better. Get rid of words like "reasonable" and "intent" in the rules and just make them more black and white.

PS
By the way the Packers are the 5th most penalized team in the league so far this season. Good teams overcome penalties and don't let one call decide the game.

In Monday night game SD time keeper stole 18 seconds from Pitts. late in 4th, and oh the crap would have hit the fan if time ran out on Steelers.

But, isn't this Pittsburgh's fault to some extent for not noticing and complaining? This is another job for a rule expert coach; to watch the starting an stopping of the clock.

Of course egregious examples like this are rare; but I've seen it several times where the clock is starting a second late or early on a regular basis. That could be brought to the refs attention , stopped and corrected...well unless its in favor of Packers😁.

I really agree with your post. I've always thought many teams needed a clock manager.
As you say for about what 50k, 100k you can have a guy that will dictate the tempo of the game based on the current scenario.

Clock management can get really critical at the end of each half and many coaches are too busy with packages, substitutions, injuries, and plays. I think this could be a critical differential in 1 to 4 games each season.

Also I think the NFL seriously seriously needs to go back and look at the catch rules... the Chargers CB got an INT when the ball clearly hit the ground and moved and it was reviewed and upheld, when the Calvin Johnson (and others that followed) TDs weren't TDs?

Those rules don't seem consistent within them selves... even less when you add in the common sense and eye ball tests.

And I still argue that Calvin Johnson catch was clearly a catch even by NFL rules... as he caugh it, sorta stopped and let it go on purpose. .. that was the play. Where the others were catches, but not according to NFL rules... I think the Calvin Johnson one a catch even by NFL rules and the refs ruling was wrong, where the other ones, the ref ruling was right, but the written rule was wrong.
