The Green Bay Packers defense will never get used to losing this way. For the second consecutive year they stood scattered around the field with a look of disbelief on their faces, their ticket home punched on the only possession in a postseason overtime.

The defense was more than the sum of it's parts. Until sudden death in the playoffs.

If Peppers stays in his zone and someone makes a tackle(anyone) outcome could have been different. We just can't mentally put things together 4 qtrs yet. You can't put a lot on the defense when it takes 2 1/2 quarters for our offense to wake up and realize " hey where playing a game today ?"

It doesn't really bug me that Capers called a zone defense so much as the fact that every time he calls a zone defense some of the players have no idea what's going on and players on the other team are wide open. Especially this late in the season. The number of coverage breakdowns capers defenses seem to have late in seasons is kind of embarrassing. Yeah the players made mistakes but when it happens all the time with different players something is wrong with the coaching.

Lets cover a red hot future hall of famer in OT with the oldest OLB in the league.... um ok

I would assume this has a lot to do with conditioning...you're not as physically or mentally as sharp when you're fatigued. We're usually right there at the top with injuries, too.
Mike McCarthy clearly can't fix those issues with the approach he's been using. Jimmy Johnson's Cowboys used to "challenge your will to compete" when the game got on late. Ol' Jimmy used to kind of smile when talking about his dominance over the Packers as they didn't have the will to compete when challenged. They were simply gassed and Dallas ran right over them time after time. I gotta believe that some of that still remains all these years later...not conditioned = soft and on the verge of collapse. We see it way too often in Packerland but that's okay...we make the playoffs year after year so all is good. No reason to change.

Ted Thompson sits on his hands per former GM: "because they’ve had 25 fricking years of great quarterbacks. Of course it works. Try it without a special quarterback."

When we get pressure we almost never hear about coverage problems.

The question comes into what was Randall and Ha-Ha's assignments. Ha-Ha was single deep safety. Randal was covering Fitz off the LOS but let him go when Fitz got about to the Hash marks. At which time Randall settled into a zone over the top of Burnett. If he was doing the correct assignment, that would tell me that Ha-Ha was supposed to be covering the deeper sideline over the top of Peppers which he didn't do. He also moved towards the side Palmer scrambled towards. but the way Ha-Ha dropped, it appears that he was playing like he was supposed to be single high.

My gut is that Randall was supposed to follow Fitz leaving Peppers and Burnett covering short, Ha-Ha single deep and 3 in man coverage.

Here is an image as Randall releases Fitz.
