Left tackle is a premium position and he's playing the position very well. This deal makes sense.

He's got to keep improving to be worth it but so far he's gotten better every year. Played with multiple torn ligaments in his ankle last year I believe and still held up well so he's tough as hell. He played a great game Sunday but wasn't against much as far as competition. I am not of the opinion that LT is that much more important than RT and LT salaries are ridiculously inflated comparatively so I am not the biggest fan of paying this much for one but if the guarantees are fairly low then w/e.

I'm curious how much is guaranteed and how much is tied to bonuses. I was hoping we'd sign bahk for 9-10 milion a year so this is a little higher than expected but not terribly so.

Not surprised a bit by this.

I still think they need better than Bahktiari at the position, but its been clear for some time (and not just by the recent Sitton foofaraw) that Thompson/McCarthy don't agree. I expected him to be the first to get taken care of, and he was.

Oh, well.

Will wait until the contract breakdown is available. He is the best option we have now, but I still am not sold on him long term and hope the contract is setup to be easy to get out from under without major cap impact should we find a better option.

Double ditto on everything Steve said.

It's too high, but:
For most positions, players entering their 4th year are pretty much done ascending. But many OLmen keep getting better until their bodies start to fail. And as Steve said, Bahktieri is ascending.

17M guaranteed this year and 10 next; GB has some injury protections early in the contract and performance protections toward at the end of the contract.

The cap is projected to increase more than 12M per; this deal might look much better in 2 -3 years even if Bahktieri doesn't improve much.

He's making about 1.8M this year; so we're paying under $54M for 5 years. That is about right.

If we look at some of the other top 5 paid LTs: Trent Williams; Eric fisher, this looks pretty good.

(4 years, $51.67M; $17M guaranteed)

25 years old with years to reach his ceiling, protecting Aaron Rodgers is top priority and money saved from releasing sitton has been well spent

Which left tackles are currently in the final year of their deals?
