I appreciate what Clay has meant to the organization and he still has a few more good seasons in him. But he peaked awhile ago and may be regressing, I'd rather spread that 15m cap hit out and resign Lang/Tretter/Jones/Perry

Always felt Clay was a one-trick pony and when he moved to Middle/Inside LB I thought that was quite unselfish of him.

You folks always want a player to take a pay cut and when a player is outplaying their contract, you don't say a damn thing. You're no different and no better than the greedy owners of the NFL.

Much better to unload a guy when he's beginning his decline than to hang on hoping for a repeat of the good years.

You're right Big Kev, absolutely horrible of us greedy fans to want the front office to put the best possible team on the field it can, so selfish. Clay made more money off his Fabio shampoo commercials than all of us will make in a lifetime. We owe this guy something in your mind?

I think Matthews could be more than the fans are noticing, though I don't know that. But if the Packers got rid of Matthews, would defense then focus on Perry and shut him down? I haven't had the time to really break the team down this year but at times when a player drops, it's not due to the player but due to the scheme or setting up others. I wonder if that could be what is happening with Matthews.

But right now, people are wanting Matthews to take a pay cut to pay Perry... but the reality is they'll probably be saying Perry is over paid once he gets paid... heck they said he was over paid at 5 million per season... now he wants a lot more.

I pick on Matthews because his play has declined, and I didn't think his contract was warranted when he signed it. Now, you tack "questionable" hits to the equation and is it really all that much of a surprise, this is being discussed?

If anybody is seeing the benefit of scheming helping them out it's Matthews since about the only times he's near the QB this year is when he's on a stunt, going up the middle, or unblocked. As opposed to Perry who is beating guys 1 on 1 with quickness or straight powered through them. Honestly just watching our OLB face off 1 on 1 against tackles I've noticed Datone beating the guy across from him more often than Clay. Same for Fackrell, those 2 just haven't been getting as many snaps.

If we pay Nick Perry and he plays like Clay has recently then yah we'll say he's over paid. If he plays like Nick Perry has lately then no we wont just like nobody is saying that Daniels or Bakhtiari are over paid anymore.

This ain't Madden... you can't keep everyone, and you can't redo every deal when you run into a cap problem.

If the team is able to sign Tretter or Lang the other could be gone since they have Lindsey.

I just don't know of who to sign in his place and I'm not a real believer in cutting someone for the sake of it. I prefer to replace a piece with a better piece, not just a different piece.

If anything right now, Fackrell is passing Peppers and Jones (on the outside)...
