I'm going to withhold judgement since I don't know about Kizer but my initial reaction is that we're short on cornerbacks. Might be another draft where the Packers select CB 1st and 2nd?

Unless there's something we don't know about Randall, I don't like this move. Randall showed some nice potential at times. He could have success in the right defense surrounded by the right talent. I don't see Kizer as anything more than an average backup QB. Those are easier to find than talented CBs with decent speed.

Never say never, of course -- Tom Brady was a sixth-round pick, after all -- but I think it's a stretch to anoint Kizer the heir apparent at this point. Kizer was a mid-second-round pick, the fourth quarterback taken in his class, compared to Rodgers, who was taken late in the first round and was the second quarterback taken. I think it's more likely that Green Bay is simply trying to shore up the backup position and improve their mid-round stock into the bargain. If Kizer turns out to be something special, great, but for now he is very, very raw.

I do wonder how he feels about being relegated to a backup role so soon after starting almost an entire season.

Before last season, McCarthy said his back-up OL was the best he’s ever had. We all thought BS; but McCray, Murphy, Patrick and Spriggs was a helleva 2nd string OL. It’s hard to believe, but the fan is not privy to ALL the info.

I like it. Randall can be substantially replaced by a HEALTHY Devon House-type for 3-4M. And how much better is he than Rollins, Hawkins or Pipkins after they take their jump? And Nerd talked about Waters; there's a reason he's been kept around for 2 years. It’s obvious GB wasn’t going to pick-up Randall's 5th yr. I'd rather have Randell; but they'd have to dump one of those young CBs, who might be the next Tramon.

The move freed up .35M in cap; almost .6K if Hundley is cut. And it freed up the cap space that would have otherwise gone to a vet QB back-up.

Swapping our regular picks, we move up half a round in 4 and 5 [if we swapped our comp picks, we move up a whole round in each] and we netted the coveted 1st pick on day 3.

Those trashing Kizer, not sure if you realize that Kizer played for the BROWNS last year. What would Rodgers’ stats have been? I thought he played a nice game for a rookie against us.

In first year Goff, 0-7, QBR 18.9; Wentz 7-9 QBR 49.4; Bortles 3-10 QBR 26.7; Derek Carr had QBR of 40 and 41 his first 2 years; [Kizer QBR =26.7]. He will be a lot better in year 2 and w/ 15 starts he’s got more experience than Hundley.

One scary thing: if the Browns, who know him best, thought he was capable of a solid jump to yr 2, why’d they dump him? Well, they’re taking a QB at 1 or 4 [If they don’t, this is bad news for us] and they got Taylor as their vet. There is not enough practice time to develop 2 QBs, so Kizer was going into mothballs. If they can get a CB, who'll be pretty good if he pulls his head out of his arse, why not trade Kizer.

Anyone remember the last 2nd rnd QB GB traded for after having a dismal rookie season? Rumors abounded that GB had their eye on Kizer last year like Daddy Wolf had his eye on another QB a few years back.

I like it.

Apparently the Packers were close to cutting Randall last season. At least this way, they were able to get something for him.

Kizer struggled as a rookie when forced to start as a rookie on a bad team... Packers rookies didn't always look great either when they were forced to play.

Randall has a ton of physical talent...the team must of felt that he wasn't worth the mental headaches...

Which brings me to what to do at Safety... can we afford to lose Burnett now? Also Randall and HaHa seemed close and some have compared HaHa to also being talented but a headache (though HaHa does generally seem like a team guy first where Randall may not of been).

So it might be interesting... if they had to pick one... Burnett or HaHa which would they pick... also do they choose to keep both?

Also the Packers need more CBs... it will be interesting to see where and how they get them.

HaHa had a bad year, long as he’s willing to get with the program, keep him. Dude could be elite.

This comment over on ESPN made me laugh:

This is awesome. One of TT's biggest flaws was his refusal to move on from draft mistakes. Gutekunst appears ready to change that. The Randall/Rollins drafts were horrible. Randall is Terrell Buckley 2.0 - good athlete but too small and deathly afraid of contact. Rollins is just too slow to play CB, might stick as a S. Kizer has way more arm talent than Hundley and you don't have to watch that damn gum chewing. Getting Randall off the roster, getting Hundley some competition and moving up in both rounds is a win and the kind of deal Ted Thompson woulnd't make in a million years.

Don Richter wrote:

The gum-chewing comment aside, do you agree that Kizer has more arm strength than Hundley? I didn't watch much of him last year, but I did see him whip a few balls pretty impressively far downfield, even if too many of them ended up in the wrong hands. But I don't want to read too much into that either: Peyton Manning threw something like 28 interceptions his rookie campaign, and he turned out all right.

Incidentally, how lazy in the gym do you have to be that after three years in which your full-time job is to do nothing but train, you still can't sling the ball reliably more than ten yards downfield?
