On January 10th 2018, GB signed a RB named Joel Bouagnon. The bears had this N. Illinois product in their TC as a rookie in 2017 when he was injured. A settlement of $1.6 million was agreed upon and Bouagnon was released.

Joel Bouagnon is on the current GB roster. I have tried to discover what he injured, but can't seem to find out. It is a mystery .

What did Joel Bouagnon injure?

Has he fully recovered from that injury?

😕

He’ll probably get a shot, but would have to bowl over the coaches in order to surpass Jones and Williams (and Monty).

Discovering that Bouagnon's injury was to a knee only explains part of the story. The Bears thought it was serious enough to settle with him for $1.6 million. I'd still like to know more about his injury.

I trust that GB would not have signed him if his injuries had not 100% healed. I've had a broken knee cap myself and know that 100% recovery is the normal result. ACL and MCL injuries however can vary in severity and length of recovery time. I hope that he will be a great new asset for the Packers.

Bouagnon's contract was a 3 years for $1.66 million, with $465,000 base in year 1... so giving him $1.6 (96%+ of entire contract) for getting injured in the first year just seems wrong... which is why you are probably wondering about how injury... especially since the Bears would probably only be on the hook for the first year pay of $465,000 for keeping him on the IR the entire year.

I don't know what this money was for, but overthecap.com  suggest that Bouagnon's dead cap hit to the Bears is only $48,441. I'm not sure if that's just signing bonus or injury settlement. But it is 10.4% (almost two games worth) of his first years pay, which seems more like a settlement to me than basically paying his entire 3 years worth of contract.

This overthecap.com  link, which I posted above, tells his contact details

One year, for $480,000 with nothing guaranteed

The only mystery left, is what type of knee injury did he have? We're not going to know that unless Bouagnon or someone on Bouagnon inner circle talks (or if one of you see him in person).

But considering it was less than 2 games worth of checks... the knee injury might of been a less serious knee injury.
