Jermaine Whitehead's career with the Packers . . . is done.

Whitehead . . . was released two days after he was ejected for slapping New England Patriots center David Andrews in the head during the second quarter of Green Bay's 31-17 loss.

It wasn't the sole reason for his release, but it may have sealed his fate. The Packers decided to use cornerback Tramon Williams, not Whitehead, at safety to replace the traded Ha Ha Clinton-Dix against the Patriots. Fellow safety Josh Jones also saw his role increase significantly after the trade.

"The Whitehead penalty was clearly a classic reaction to the first guy," McCarthy said Monday. "And they catch the second guy. Whatever your feeling is, the severity of the penalty is a whole other topic. But . . . you can't have that. You can't react to those types of things. Yeah, we need to be better there."

Whoa, there really is a new sheriff in town. Can you imagine Ted Thompson making a swift, decisive move like this? Maybe Whitehead was already on the way out, but it's nice to see the concept of "last straw" appearing in Green Bay.

Once again some of you need to realize Mark Murphy is the only person who can fire Mike McCarthy.
Guttekunst controls player personal only!

Maybe he will trade/,release enough players to piss Mike off and Mike will leave.

I doubt Mike McCarthy is even aware that the players have been cut or traded....he’s to busy staring down at his play sheet.😂

If you're going to fire Whitehead simple for reacting in self defense of himself and not being a star then management should be fired for the same bullshit such as Mike McCarthy be fired for not be willing to make adjustments and Gute fired for picking Cobb over Nelson.

Unless there is more than what we currently know (which I assume there is)

Also I still think the RB coach that year (a former NFL FB) had a thing for oversized RB with power even if they couldn't do other things which might of given Harris an edge as someone else outplayed him in training camp IMO. Though neither would end up doing much.
