I'm probably the only one who thinks Kyle Orton is good.

Had the Packers not selected Rodgers, I wanted them to get Orton with a 2nd-day pick.

Now that Orton has viable WR's in Brandon Marshall and Eddie Royal, I think he'll be given every opportunity to shine in Denver.

I would love to see Orton do great in Denver.(mostly because it will piss off the Bears fans.) I think he is more than a serviceable QB. Given the right WR's I think he could do quite well. I don't however want him on the GB team unless it's as a back up.

Warhawk, I do trust you noticed that my statement was dripping with sarcasm.

According to Peter King, however, Kyle Orton was in fact the the key to this deal for McDaniels , as difficult as that might be to believe.

1. The key to the trade was Kyle Orton. Laugh if you want, but it's the absolute truth. McDaniels looked hard at tape of the available quarterbacks from teams that made serious offers, players like Orton, Washington's Jason Campbell and Tampa Bay's Luke McCown. Every one of those teams was in the ballpark with an offer of at least two first-round draft picks and a quarterback.

But as the deal went down, McDaniels, who watched every offensive snap of more than 10 Bears games with Orton playing, got more and more impressed with Orton's arm, his decision-making and his ability to extend plays when the pocket broke down. You can think and I can think it's crazy he didn't like Campbell -- who got Washington off to a 6-2 start last year -- more than he liked Orton, but it's the unvarnished truth. McDaniels thinks he can win with Orton. . . .

3. The Jets were never in it seriously -- true story.
New York is either convinced that Brett Ratliff or Kellen Clemens is its guy, or the Jets think the New York spotlight would have been too white-hot for a rabbit-ears guy like Cutler to handle, or they didn't want to pay two first-round picks for Cutler after giving a third for one season of Brett Favre. I just know that the Jets never made a remotely serious offer for Cutler, much to my surprise.

4. All you Redskins fans who are so sure youwerethisclose to getting Cutler? Total BS. Yes, Washington was competitive, and the 'Skins would have done whatever it took to get Cutler. But once McDaniels decided Orton was his man -- even though Washington's first-round pick would have been the 13th overall, five slots ahead of Chicago's -- the contest was over. The 'Skins were out of it, even though Cutler and greater Washington were sure it almost happened.

It's really quite amazing. As soon as I heard the trade, I suddenly realized that Kyle sucked less than I previously thought, and Jay Cutler sucked more than I previously thought...objectively speaking, anyway.

I am sorry but it just seems almost laughable people can buy into the "looks like Cassell" bull.

What he looked like to me is a guy that could not even clearly distance himself from Rex Grossman as a starter. I mean the only reason Kyle got to start was Rexy was so Godawful pitiful they couldn't stand it anymore.

Last time I checked, Orton won ten games his rookie season.

Nobody knew why Grossman started over him the following season. Maybe it has to do with the fact that the guy was a former #1 pick who showed promise whenever playing, but he keeps getting injured for the duration of every season.

Either way, Orton is a proven winner. Sure, the defense does most of the work, but he has one won games with offenses that hardly have any firepower.

Orton is a top 16 QB. That means at least 16 other teams in the NFL, if they dumped their dude for Orton, it would be an upgrade.

Orton was pretty impressive for the crap he had to work with.

I'm not sure where the "top 16" rating comes from. He was ranked 25th in QB Passer Rating and the same in passing percentage. He wasn't even in the top twelve in the NFC let alone all the good QB's over in the AFC.

I heard reports of people saying the Denver offense scheme will be more suited for Orton than the Chicago scheme was. If you remember Orton threw the ball tons in college and seems to strive in an open up style offense, so we will see.
Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be 🙂 (PS, Zero should charge for this)

I would love for it to be us and end up with two first round

"warhawk" wrote:

How can that happen? Unless you mean we swap first round picks making us lower and get a first round pick next year...? Is anyone in the draft worth that much?

I understand the point of coming out ahead overall but the details of the thought aren't realistic.

Zero2Cool (17h) : Sources spoke of many, many times last summer where Hackett called a play, then Rodgers changed it completely at the line
Martha Careful (10-May) : 1. this is true of all our linemen. 2. His run block is fine. 3. If all OL played like he has, we would win SB.
beast (10-May) : Meyers pass blocking is really good, his run blocking is really not.
Zero2Cool (9-May) : Packers have claimed DE Spencer Waege off of waivers from the 49ers and waived DT Rodney Mathews.
Zero2Cool (9-May) : And the OL protections seem to be good.
Zero2Cool (9-May) : I really don't know lol. I don't see him getting blown up.

Mucky Tundra (9-May) : 4th
Zero2Cool (9-May) : because he's 1st
Mucky Tundra (9-May) : Myers isn't even the 3rd best C on the roster atm
Martha Careful (9-May) : I am not sure I understand the Myers hate. He was consistently our third best lineman. RG and LT were worse.
beast (9-May) : Just saying I don't think moving Myers would help Myers.
beast (9-May) : Center is usually considered the easiest position physically if you can handle the snap stuff.
Mucky Tundra (8-May) : Bust it is then
Zero2Cool (8-May) : Context. Sounds like Myers won't be cross-trained. C or bust.

Zero2Cool (8-May) : Packers actually had Ray Lewis on the phone.
Zero2Cool (8-May) : Packers wanted to draft Ray Lewis. Ravens stole him.

Zero2Cool (2-May) : May 3rd. Extension day for Jordan Love. (soonest)
Zero2Cool (1-May) : USFL MVP QB Alex McGough moved to WR. So that's why no WR drafted!
earthquake (1-May) : Packers draft starters at safety ever few years. Collins, Clinton-Dix, Savage
beast (1-May) : Why can't the rookies be a day 1 starter? Especially when we grabbed 3 of them at the position
dfosterf (1-May) : Not going to be shocked if Gilmore goes to the Lions.
