This team is often one of the worst when it comes to paying the Defensive side of the ball. I think 2020 was the first time they were in the top 10 in a long time. It is hard to have a great D when all the salary cap is spent on O. Especially when you miss as often as we have on top Defensive draft picks.

Defense spending by cap
Year Rank #players Cap $ Average Cap %
2020 7 24 $78,183,236 $3,257,635 38.34%
2019 22 22 $53,619,373 $2,437,244 27.21%
2018 32 21 $26,876,613 $1,279,839 14.84%

Does he want to come back? His contract is up, according to Demovsky. It hasn't been rolled over.

RobDemovsky said that #Packers DC Mike Pettine’s contract is set to expire. Not sure if it was his choice but most coaches agree to rollovers each year so they’re always in 2-year deals. No word on his status. His exit interview was today.

I know they usually don't like having coaches with only one year left, especially head coach, lame duck last year is a no-no it seems. But I think some might go up hirer, like did Pettine sign a 2 year or 3 year to start?

Not asking for an answer (unless one of us actually would know), but I would think there would be a lot more drama if everyone did this, and some coaches or teams knew they were about to lose a guy.

All in all they did a decent job and were peaking at the end of the year. The run defense wasn't a sieve like last year although there were times when they lost the battle.

I'll assume the injuries).

But even the other DTs were looking good.

The Packers need to improve their CBs (two) and maybe DT and coverage SS/LB and this defense could be something special.

They especially need the CBs... but I've also been thinking with Clark and the edge rushers, if they got one more stud, then some stud is getting a one on one match up every play... like if they could get JJ Watt (not happening on his current contract), that could be scary good.

Of course, CB is the most valuable defensive position, and we got huge holes there, so that's the most needed. Otherwise teams with good WR depth can give us troubles with quick passes all game.

No need to cut him. His contract is over. The question becomes do they re-sign him. (Probably not.) If not who do they replace him with? A high priced free agent is not in the budget.

I'm looking at CBs,

Patrick Peterson (who's not playing as well as he's name hype would suggest, but sometimes when you take a career #1 who's past their prime and and ask them to be the #2 to take pressure off of them, they suddenly start looking better.

Also out CB coach has ties to veteran FAs Xavier Rhodes and MacKenzie Alexander. Rhodes is another long time #1 who's past his prime and might look better as a #2.

Seahawks have two starting CB FAs, I'm looking at CB Shaquill Griffin, who I wanted to draft (instead we got CB King, S Josh Jones, and a couple picks after him, DT Adams).

But the Seahawks pass rush has sucked... he might look a lot better with a decent pass rush... though he also has his twin brother on the Seahawks, and he might be hard to leave, they sound close, but he did it once entering the draft early.
