He's already have 4 career interceptions (0 for Aaron Kampman), 36 passes deflected (8 for Kampman), 70.5 sacks (50.5 for Kampman), 339 total tackles (416 for Kampman).

And yet those numbers, as impressive as they appear, are almost insignificant compared to Reggie White's numbers at this stage in his career. I posted them in another thread, but I can't be bothered to do a search at this moment (sick kids and sick wife kind of sap one's motivation).

I don't really understand the point of that response? Who's talking about Reggie White? I love the guy, don't get me wrong, but this has nothing to do with him. lol. They are great numbers, arguably better then Aaron Kampman for the same amount of time. If we're going to compare every defensive linemen to Reggie White then every one possibly available isn't going to be good enough. That's not a fair comparison and don't get the point of that post?

Anyone who denies Peppers talent is kidding themselves. I believe he is going to be successful in any role he will be in next year. It hurts to see players that we could have had be successful with other teams and making them better, that's all.

I am not denying that Peppers is talented. The point of the post was that Peppers has had some great years, but he's also had some relatively lousy years. He hasn't demonstrated the consistency of a Reggie White. Reggie was a rock. Reggie was a lock. You could rely upon him. Therefore, he was worth making a splash in the free-agent market. We don't know which Peppers will show up after he gets his payday. Therefore, I'm not convinced he's worth the massive wad he will be demanding. All the talent in the world is useless if you don't consistently live up to it.

What player really does show the consistency of Reggie White? I mean, that's just an unfair assessment. We might as well plan on never signing a free agent defensive linemen then because he hasn't shown the consistency of Reggie White. Makes no sense and is unfair.

Peppers has really only had one bad year, and that was when the whole team was playing bad. It wasn't just Peppers. It was an off year. You pair a super talented player like Peppers up with a talented coach like Capers and I guarantee you that you would see consistency and results.

If we are going into an Un-capped NFL we REALLY won't be able to afford players. I feel like we can afford a solid starter or two over the past couple of years. Let's hope the CBA gets worked out or the draft really will be the only place we can get talented players and then it will be REALLY hard to stay competitive. Several other teams will also have the draft AND free agency to better their team.

Thompson is good at drafting, but he's not great. Far from it, IMO. He's above average. Being an above average drafter and being static in Free Agency is more then likely not going to win a super bowl.

With that being said, here's to a great draft, post-draft, and regular season!!

Panthers will want people to think that they're intent on keeping him because it helps them in negotiating a deal. I think they would like to keep him as well, but I'm not sure he doesn't find away to just get out of Carolina. I think things pickup next week on his front.

My guess is he ends up in New England, but that's just a guess.

Also agreed on this - it'd be one thing if Peppers was specifically calling to be moved to GB, but we all know where he wants to go (hint: It ain't GB).

To be fair, I kind of doubt Peppers shares your particular set of biases. I expect that he wants NE because their offense should be spectacular again this year and because they have a proven track record of taking defensive veterans and plugging them successfully into their scheme - and that scheme is a proven 3-4 scheme, which happens to be the kind iof scheme for which he thinks he's best suited.

None of that has anything to do with whether or not Thompson is overly stingy, and GB's dearth of nightlife - or should I say the effect of that - is a myth that has been dispelled several times over at this point.

I wasn't speaking on Peppers alone but more FA in general. You are kidding yourself if you don't think GB's dreadful nightlife doesn't play a part in SOME FA's decisions to come here.

If Ted gets the tight "label" fair or not it is going to have an effect on FA's as well.

You said yourself Peppers probably wants NE because thier offense is spectacular. Well, lets make GB's "spectacular".

You also said NE has a PROVEN track record of plugging in Defensive veterans. Isn't that because they actually have plugged in defensive veterans. Hard to get that "label" when you don't ever pursue anyone.

I agree. Anyone who doesn't think the extenuating circumstances of Green Bay, ie: Club scene, weather, location, etc., doesn't have SOME bearing in players list of where they would like to go, they are kidding themselves. Of course there are exceptions. There are exceptions to EVERYTHING in life. But to be fair, it should be acknowledged that it would at least cross their mind. I truly believe that in order to get most big time free agents here, we would have to pay out more money then our competitors. That's not necessarily a terrible thing . . . just the way it is.

Yes, i agree the weather can play into it. But there are quite a few "cold weather" teams that play in the NFL. The Bills, both NY teams, and quite a few more.
I think the fact that GB is such a small market town, and players THINK that there's not enough "night life" for them matters more then how cold it gets.
If they don't take the time to look, they won't realize there's plenty to do in and around GB.
Unfortunately, they still see GB as it was in 1950.

By this logic, Green Bay would always have to have one of the highest payrolls in the league just to have a prayer of being competitive. I don't buy it.

True,......if your #1 goal is to party and get into trouble.
IN GB, there is plenty to do, and as a player, you get treated like royalty.
Go ahead, go to the "big city" and get lost in the crowd.
If night life is their #1 goal, then I don't want them here anyway. I want players that want to win a Super Bowl as their #1 priority.
