Hall of Fame quarterback Brett Favre is fighting back.

The former quarterback, embroiled for months in a scandal regarding the alleged misappropriation of welfare funds intended for Mississippi residents, has sued Hall of Fame tight end Shannon Sharpe and Pat McAfee for defamation of character, based on things they have allegedly said about him in connection with the Mississippi welfare situation.

“Shannon Sharpe and Pat McAfee tried to further their careers by making baseless defamatory allegations against Brett Favre,” a Favre spokesperson told DailyMail.com.
That’s a tad hyperbolic, in my opinion. Sharpe and McAfee are doing just fine on their own. They don’t need to allegedly lie about someone who hasn’t played in a dozen years in order to boost their careers.

The alleged defamation traces, frankly, to a failure to exercise caution when speaking about Favre’s situation. He has always claimed that he did not know the source of funding for payments made both to him and to the University of Southern Mississippi. He also has not been accused of criminal wrongdoing. Whenever discussing Favre’s situation, it’s important to point that out.

Someone really needs to tell Favre to shut the hell up and stop throwing good money after bad...

He got scammed/conned out of over a million in the concussion treatment BS medical nonsense, then tried to help recruit more victims (thinking if they had more funding it might work)... maybe he's just stupid and innocent.

Then he got involved with taking government money, which he claimed he was innocent of, he was just told to he'd be called when to show up and was never called. Okay, that's plausible, considering the mismanagement and stealing that was happening, he might be innocent.

Then a different scam, this time misappropriation of government funding, in which he was the head guy trying to get the government to convert funds to his daughters school, for a new volleyball training area (which his daughter was and still is huge into volleyball... not sure if she's talented enough to make it, but she'll probably attempt to go to the Olympics), but they have subpoena text messages and proven Favre knew damn well he wasn't supposed to have that money, he might not of known exact where it was coming from, but if so, that's because he was willing and purposely putting his head in the sand for that issue, as he didn't care where the money was coming from...

And Favre didn't think some talking head would talk smack about his pure stupidity?

He's not young and doesn't travel enough to send dick pictures to young women anymore, or possibility try to cheat on his wife.... now he's all about talking good money and converting it to where it doesn't belong and he thinks everyone will just think he's a good ole country boy, innocent and stupid?

It's the third time (maybe more if there are more that aren't yet known publicly)... stop being a fucking idiot and people won't talk smack about you... it's that simple.

Truly Brett is not very bright. He is the poster child for "Don't let this rich guy handle money or make ANY business decisions. "

Mike Florio might be a tool, but he knows legal.  And he explained very well why Favre might of just made a big mistake.

As everyone else had seem to have moved pasted Shannon Sharpe and Pat McAfee's comments against him, he not only just reopened the subject, but he also gave Sharpe and McAfee free access to explore Favre's background in incredible detail as well as a great motive to do so.

This lawsuit pass, literally might become Favre's biggest INT, as if Sharpe's or McAfee's people can find any real dirt (and the lawsuit gives them free access to look hard) then this could potentially screw Favre.

Curious to what Sterling Sharpe thinks about all this lol

Then you have to try to sue a guy who's accused of stealing money from the poor? That's gonna go over well, lol.

I know you're saying lawyer up to protect the brand, the business, etc. I get that. I just think this is a frivolous lawsuit that will be dismissed quickly. I would at least present the issue to lawyers for opinions. I did this same thing during my custody cases. Each lawyer told me I'm doing everything they would do and while they'd gladly "accept your money", they can't do more than I'm already doing.

So, I guess I'm saying. I can understand not retaining a lawyer, but I think you need to at least consult with one just to be prepared.

I can agree with that Zero2Cool... at least if you just want it to go away. But I figured Pat might not want to just go away... I thought he'd want to not only stand his ground but also hit back and scream it from the roof top, don't mess with me, you scumbag!

This is a major opportunity to not just defend the brand but to grow the brand.

Also, I assume he didn't say allegedly every single time, otherwise I don't think Favre's lawyer would be sueing, but I could be wrong. I'm guessing Pat called him a scumbag when adding filler to someone else was doing the talking, as Pat is great at adding allegedly when he is talking, but not always when throwing a filler in when some else takes a pause.

But a lot of assumptions, depends on how both sides want to play it.

lol McAfee today said after talking with lots of lawyers and law folks, yeah, the American legal system is so complicated you basically have no choice but to hire a lawyer.

I agree with him and I think it's why our system is ASBOLUTELY BULLSHIT! You shouldn't need to attend numerous years of college to be educated on how to defense yourself in a Country that claims "land of the free". Of course, you can just hire someone and pay out the ass at their insanely stupid price gouging fares.

Just wait, tomorrow I won't hold back on how I really feel about our legal system! 😁😁

Zero2Cool (19h) : Sources spoke of many, many times last summer where Hackett called a play, then Rodgers changed it completely at the line
Martha Careful (10-May) : 1. this is true of all our linemen. 2. His run block is fine. 3. If all OL played like he has, we would win SB.
beast (10-May) : Meyers pass blocking is really good, his run blocking is really not.
Zero2Cool (9-May) : Packers have claimed DE Spencer Waege off of waivers from the 49ers and waived DT Rodney Mathews.
Zero2Cool (9-May) : And the OL protections seem to be good.

Zero2Cool (9-May) : because he's 1st
Mucky Tundra (9-May) : Myers isn't even the 3rd best C on the roster atm
Martha Careful (9-May) : I am not sure I understand the Myers hate. He was consistently our third best lineman. RG and LT were worse.
beast (9-May) : Just saying I don't think moving Myers would help Myers.
beast (9-May) : Center is usually considered the easiest position physically if you can handle the snap stuff.
Mucky Tundra (8-May) : Bust it is then
Zero2Cool (8-May) : Context. Sounds like Myers won't be cross-trained. C or bust.

dfosterf (2-May) : The number on Love is going to be brutal.
Zero2Cool (2-May) : May 3rd. Extension day for Jordan Love. (soonest)
Zero2Cool (1-May) : USFL MVP QB Alex McGough moved to WR. So that's why no WR drafted!
earthquake (1-May) : Packers draft starters at safety ever few years. Collins, Clinton-Dix, Savage
beast (1-May) : Why can't the rookies be a day 1 starter? Especially when we grabbed 3 of them at the position
dfosterf (1-May) : Not going to be shocked if Gilmore goes to the Lions.
dfosterf (1-May) : I hear you dhazer, but my guess would be Gilmore Colts and Howard Vikings from what little has been reported.
Mucky Tundra (30-Apr) : S learn from McKinney who learns from Hafley who learns from the fans. Guaranteed Super Bowl
Zero2Cool (30-Apr) : could*
Zero2Cool (29-Apr) : Safeties should learn from Xavier.
dhazer (29-Apr) : And what about grabbing a Gilmore or Howard at CB ? Those are all Free Agents left
dhazer (29-Apr) : out of curiosity do they try and sign Simmons or Hyde to let these young safeties learn from, they can't be day 1 starters.
